Trampolines are pretty commonplace backyard items these days. They're great when you have a kid or two whoneeds to burn off some energy, and they're excellent for keeping people entertained when you have ahouse full of guests. But like most great things, these awesome forms of entertainment can also present greatreasons for worry if they're not properly attended to.

Here are seven summer trampoline safety tips that will put a bounce into everyone's step when they come to yourhouse:

Keep It in the Open

Your trampoline should be placed out in the open and far from trees, fences, light posts, or other inanimate objects. The risk of injury increases significantly if your trampoline is too close to these types of objects.

Keep an Eye on the Springs and Bolts

Before any jumpers step foot on the mat, make sure the bolts are super tight and the springs are properly positioned, and don't get complacent after you've had your trampoline for a while. You should always check the springs toensure they're taught and secure; if they're not, it's time to buy replacements. Also, make sure that the springs arecovered by some form of protection. A padded mat is a traditional method, though many have taken to custom-cutting pool noodles to protect jumpers from spring-related injuries. Whatever method you choose, just make sure itdoesn’t interfere with the function of the springs.

Consider a Safety Net Enclosure

Trampoline safety nets attach to the structure directly near the mat, aiding in the prevention of contact with thesprings and frame. The enclosure prevents contact with the ground below if properly installed.

Level It Out

Placing a trampoline on an uneven surface is just asking for trouble. Be mindful not to place the trampoline on an

incline so jumpers aren't greeted with unexpected surfaces. A single awkward landing as a result of an unevenplaying space can result in expensive medical payments if your jumper hurts him or herself. Even worse, it couldmean liability issues if the injured person is just a guest in your home.

Establish Rules and Stick to Them

Setting boundaries in black and white is an excellent way to make sure everybody's on the same page. Put safety atthe top of this summer's list of jumping fun by creating a list of rules and going over it with anyone who will bejumping on your trampoline. Reinforce your rules with reminders when you see them being broken, and be preparedto restrict use of the trampoline for a specified time if a jumper repeatedly disobeys your order or acts in a way thatcan inflict injury on themselves or someone else.

Here are some guidelines to get you started:

No pets on the trampoline

No pets or people under the trampoline

No eating or drinking while jumping

No jumping without the supervision of an adult

No people under the influence of drugs or alcohol are permitted to jump on the trampoline

Enforce Time Limits

Watch for fatigue and pay attention to the clock. If it feels like it's been a long time, or if your jumpers start showingsigns of becoming tired, it's time to take a break. High temperatures should also be taken into consideration; makesure jumpers are remaining appropriately hydrated. The risk of injury increases when bones, muscles, and brainpower are over-exerted.

Leave the Stunts to Superheroes

Crazy kicks and outrageous flips only look cool when the jumper lucks out and lands right. All too often, hospitalvisits occur from amateur acrobats who incur painful, and sometimes life-long, injuries as a result of inappropriateantics on trampolines.
