Crave & Provide Impact

As a board member, it is your responsibility to inspire optimism in our stakeholders, donors and volunteers through a clear understanding of who we are and what our case for support is. We will also inspire people around us to look at our organization slightly differently. We are not just an organization in the business of raising funds but we are also providing opportunity to make a real impact that will create change. Question: What kind of opportunities do you think our organization provides or requires that would inspire you to deliver real impact in our community?

Summer Camp Programs

• Lion’s Camp Dorset

Due to the demands and time consuming nature of dialysis, many families are unable to enjoy a summer holiday because one member

of the family must undergo dialysis three times each week. Camp Dorset is owned and operated by Lion’s Club Camp Dorset Corp. It

is designed to provide families with the opportunity to enjoy a summer vacation - with an on-site dialysis unit and activities for the whole family. The Kidney Foundation of Canada Ontario Branches subsidize the program cost for each patient attending ($200 paid

directly to Camp Dorset). Individuals requiring additional assistance must be assessed through their Renal Social Worker.

disease.

Whether they had been personally affected by kidney disease, or have someone they care about who is affected by kidney disease, we provided a casual,

comfortable and friendly environment to explore a variety of different workshops and information sessions all related to living with kidney disease. Check with your

Organ Donation Awareness

The Kidney Foundation of Canada actively promotes awareness of and commitment to organ donation awareness campaigns and advocacy efforts to encourage all Canadians to make positive choice about organ donation. Did you know………

over 30,000 people in Canada require life-sustaining treatments such as dialysis or a kidney transplant to replace the function of kidneys that have failed?

that the number of Canadians on renal replacement therapy will double in the next 10 years?

Each day an average of 14 Canadians learns that their kidneys have failed?

over 75% of people on Ontario's organ and tissue donor list are waiting for a kidney transplant?

Canada has one of the lowest organ donation rates in the developed world?

The success rate of living donor transplantations is now over 90 per cent, thanks to transplant research discoveries?

Early Detection and Prevention

Kidney disease usually progresses silently, often destroying most of the kidney function before causing any symptoms. Therefore, people at risk of developing kidney disease should be evaluated regularly. These people include those with diabetes, high blood pressure or blood vessel diseases, and close relatives of people with hereditary kidney disease.

Fund Development

It's counter-intuitive isn't it?

To do things better and faster, you actually have to stop what you're doing. Pause a bit. Reflect. Think. See the forest, and not just the trees. We believe that the trees in our forest are our donors. To do your best, you need to know your donors on a truly human level – and connect with them in a deep and meaningful way.
