Magnitud del problema 382 millones con DM2, lo que representa el 8.3 % de la
población adulta Según ENSANUT :6.4 millones, que representa al 9.2 % de la
población mayor de 20 años (50-69) 2009, la DM fue responsable de 77 699 (13.76 %)
principales motivos de solicitud de atención médica en el segundo y tercer nivel
Los pacientes con diabetes tienen de 2 a 5 veces más probabilidad de ingresar que los no diabéticos.
Suponen un 25% - 38% de los pacientes hospitalizados. Asimismo tienen estancias más prolongadas (1 a 3 días +)

Tx: Con el fin de tratar los primeros síntomas de la hipoglucemia, los pacientes deben estar seguros de que los hidratos de carbono de acción rápida (como tabletas de glucosa, caramelos, o zumo de fruta azucarado)
