Malcolm is heading to the hospital again today.

He’s taken the day off as he ended up missing his meeting last time and hates to mess people around.

Still, he has been feeling much better and appreciated the advice he got. He thought he might just call and tell the doctor but that didn’t seem possible.

Patient: text messages are better…email is good

Patient: my referral got lost from Lewisham…they told me it would be a three month wait…after six months I called up’ ‘it becomes normality living with it and it gets passed to the back of your mind

Patient Access Team: What we should look at is the real time it takes to see patients

GP: If you allow patients to provide information for their own referral you would have to be careful

Patient Access Team: We try to ring all of the patients

GP:my struggles is not whether to refer somebody, but where to send them

GP: If you make the referral process too easy GPs may start referring patients that don’t need to be seen

Patient: I felt it was a really long time, I simple had to wait...if the symptoms had got worse, I would have done nothing…taken more Ibuprofen

Patient: the internet says a lot of things and it gets me even more worried

Patient: Skype would be great, that would be really helpful’ ‘my first choice will be face-to-face

Patient Access Team:Patients ask us...What is the consultant like? Are they Male or Female?

Patient: a text or an email would be great for me…there is no need for a letter
