World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated every
year from 1 to 7 August in more than 170
countries to encourage breastfeeding and
improve the health of babies around the world.

Breastfeeding : A Winning Goal For Life !
The theme asserts the importance of increasing and sustaining the protection, promotion and support of breastfeeding- in the Millennium Development Goal (MDGS) countdown, and beyond.
WBW call on all celebrates to protect ,promote and support breastfeeding : IT IS A VITAL LIFE – SAVING GOAL !
1. To provide
information about the Millennium Development Goals (MGDS) and how they relate to breastfeeding and infants and young child feeding(IYCF).

2. To showcase the progress made so far and the key gaps in breastfeeding and IYCF
Over the past 5-10yrs, 23
countries have recorded
gains of 20% point or more in
exclusive breast feeding
rates.
Infant mortality is reduced
by 13% with the improved
breast feeding.

3. To call attention to the importance of
STEPPING UP action to protect, promote and support breastfeeding as a key intervention in the MDGs and in the post 2015 era.
Protection means ensuring that women and their families receive scientifically factual information and support that is independent of vested business interest for example from the baby food industry and/or professionals.
Promotion means informing and raising awareness of the importance of breastfeeding and mobilizing people to take action, for example via World Breastfeeding Week!
Support means providing access to information, skilled clinical help and counseling, and practical and emotional backing to mothers to enable them to initiate, manage and sustain breastfeeding wherever they are. Maternity protection can help working mothers continue breastfeeding.

4.To stimulate interest among young people
of both gender to see the relevance of
breastfeeding in today’s changing world.
