•Saskatchewan Oral Health Professions (SOHP) & the Saskatchewan Oral Health Coalition (SOHC) worked collaboratively to adapt resource for Saskatchewan.

There are 3 levels of education and training: 1. Professional – the Trainer In health regions, this can be dental public health staff.

2. Educators Educators are trained by professional to train others.

• The oral health care team (OHCT) may include two or more of:

• Oral Health Coordinator (OHC): in Regina & Saskatoon, this is a Dental Assistant.

• Oral Health Professional (dentist, dental hygienist, dental therapist, dental assistant, denturist)

• Nurses

• Special Care Aides

• Physicians

• Other health professionals: speech-language pathologists

• Performed by licensed oral health professional (or health professional who has been trained to perform oral assessments) on admission.

• Performed on a regular basis or as need arises, by oral health coordinator, oral health professional, or nurse, whoever is trained.

• Daily care plan is developed based on basic individualized preventive oral health care regimen.

3. Daily Oral Hygiene

• Continuing Care Aides provide daily oral care to residents, based on their individualized Oral Health Care Plan.

4. Referrals

• Referrals for comprehensive dental exams and treatment are made, based on the Oral Health Assessment Tool. The majority of residents are best treated in their LTC home.
