It’s happening right here!!!Our is expanding !!At the May 2014 Forum, you agreed on a merger between two organizations, Partenaires pour la Petite Enfance de Memphrémagog and Memphré en Mouvement, in order to better serve 0-17 year-olds in the MRC and to maintain our ability to mobilize. A year has gone by, and so much has happened! Our first big Partners Meeting was held on April 7... and what a gathering: more than twenty of you came from every sector and from the four corners of the MRC!Collective debate on change, on our hopes and fears, and on our new identity made for some very interesting moments. We have since submitted our «early childhood» and «healthy lifestyles» plans, totalling close to $475,000. It’s a substantial amount for structural actions that will make a difference in the lives of 0-17 year-olds and their families.During the last few weeks, COCo, the Centre for Community Organizations, adopted a resolution to appoint the Maison de la Famille to act as mandating body for the merged group, since the MRC was not interested in this mandate.COCo is also working on the human resources organization required to implement the two action plans, which you will learn more about shortly. Finally, we hope to see you in October, at the second Partners Meeting, at which time we will adopt the governing style for the next three years. So much has been accomplished! Bravo and thank you to everyone for your commitment to improving the well-being of children 0 to 17 years old!!!COCO’s Composition : Marise Cotnoir, Valérie Groulx, Any Sanders, Nathalie Bélanger, Christine Meunier!!!!!!!!

3rd edition of internants en petite enfance.!!The third edition of the Journée des Intervenants en Petite Enfance Memphrémagog, held on May 15, was attended by some 50 educators who work with children ages five and younger.Anxiety in children was the theme of the training provided by Isabelle Vinet, from the Centre de Psychoéducation du Québec, and by France Capuano, from the Université du Québec à Montréal. The training was really appreciated by the attendees who left better equipped to support children who suffer from anxiety. This event, which is an occasion for sharing resources, is also an opportunity for educators from different sectors to meet and discuss with one another. We can say «mission accomplished» to the PPEM Child Development Committee who organized this event: more than 20 organizations serving families in the Memphremagog area were represented.!Maturity in children up to 5 years!!In the aftermath of training on the development of emotional maturity given to educators in 2012, a tool was developed to help them understand the different levels of emotional maturity in children. This framework on the development of emotional maturity in children up to five years of age comes with a guidebook that enables the user to better understand and use the framework. Both the framework and guidebook were developed by Marie Caron and Annie Rossignol, psychologists with the Centre Jeunesse de l’Estrie, in collaboration with the PPEM’s Child Development Committee. The framework and guidebook are available on the educators‘ social network by clicking on the following link: http://reseauenfance.ning.com/!!!!!!

They’re Wixxing in Memphré !!!More than 500 pre-teens have had some experience with the WIXX brand since last July, prompting them to be more active! This would not have happened without the commitment of several partners in our MRC. Indeed, when you integrate WIXX in your activities and your events, you appeal to many young people and sometimes even their parents. From sports activities in schools at the beginning of the school year, to «Plaisirs d’Hiver» events, to municipal summer festivities and the «Expo-Fête» for families, all the way to year-end events, you have shown creativity and commitment when it comes to offering a large variety of WIXX zones! Will our MRC be the WIXXiest in the Estrie region?!There’s a lot action la Ruche !!!There are many opportunities for young people to be active à La Ruche, and this winter, the school added even more! Indeed, Patrice Roy, student-life coordinator, wanted to reach the more sedentary kids, the ones who don’t usually take part in noon-time activities, and who therefore require a new approach. So he came up with the idea of an indoor skate park as well as a snow park behind the school! And it worked: dozens of kids used these facilities every week, under adult supervision. The components were made by students in the special-needs classes and set up by those most interested in the two activities. There was no shortage of motivation - among youth and adults alike. Everyone followed the rules and had fun while being physically active!!! !!

Did you know that?!!Early Childhood: !!Many organizations (Early Childhood Centres and schools) put in place transitional activities to help children adapt to kindergarten. Why is it important to focus on this transition? -48% of children experience difficulty when entering kindergarten, according to teachers (Rimm-Kaufman and collaborators, 2000); -The move to kindergarten, by itself, seems to be a key factor in determining future academic success (Pianta and Kraft-Sayer, 1999; Ramey, 1998; Friedman, 2006; Wildenger and McIntyre, 2010; Schulting, 2005; LoCasale-Crouch, 2007); -Children from disadvantaged backgrounds adapt more easily to kindergarten when they have access to transitional activities that promote parent-school communication (Bouchard and Duval, 2013); -Parents and teachers believe that a child’s level of socioemotional development is one of the most important factors in how well the child adapts to kindergarten (Pinta and Kraft-Sayer, 1999 and Pinta et al.,2001). !Heathly lifestyle habits: !!80% of children live 1,6 km from their school: a perfect distance for active transportation! Okay, I admit it’s different in a rural setting...But we’re still much too quick to use our cars! And yet, what a wonderful opportunity to be a bit more active every day and to become self-reliant! I’ve heard that some schools in our MRC are involved in «On foot, by bike, active city», a program that encourages students to walk or ride a bike to school on a daily basis! This program is also available to municipalities, which are vital partners in creating environments that promote active transportation!!(Internet link to the «On foot, by bike, active city» program) or link to this article: http://www.velo.qc.ca/files/file/TA/Savoir-FCSQ_Decembre2012_APAVVA.pdf!or to this youth magazine, for an example of program tools: http://www.velo.qc.ca/files/file/TA/Aller-Retour_Vol9No2_Printemps-2014.pdf
