HIPAA HIPAA or Health Insurance Portability and

Accountability Act of 1996, Public Law 104-191.

Enacted on August 21, 1996 Act requires HHS to publicize standards

for electronic exchange, privacy, and security of health information

Privacy rules applies to health plans, health care clearinghouses, healthcare providers
