EXERCISES ON IMMUNIZATION
Q:The number of infants and pregnant women in a subcenter area was counted during a survey and the following results were obtained:-
No. of infants= 90No. of PW= 52Using the above information calculate the monthly requirement of the subcenter for
a) Vaccine vialsb) Syringesc) Diluentsd) Vitamin A syrup
Step 1: Calculate beneficiary per month
Head count (one year)
Head count (per month)
PW Infants PW(a)
Infants(b)
52X 2= 104 90 104/12=9 90/12 = 8
Step 2 Calculate total number of doses for individual vaccine and vaccine vials
Head count (one year)
Head count (per month)
Total number of doses for TT Vaccine vial
needed
PW Infants PW(a)
Infants(b)
PW X No. of doses for PW + Infants x No. of doses for infants (c)
(c ) x WMF/ no. of doses in a vial
52X 2= 104
90 104/12=9
90/12 = 8
(9X2)+(8X2)=34 34X1.33/10=4.52(5) Tetanus Toxoid
Head count (one year)
Head count (per month)
Total number of doses for BCG Vaccine vial
needed
Infants Infants (a) (a) X No. of doses = (b)
(b ) x WMF/ no. of doses in a vial
90 90/12 = 8 8X1=8 8X1.33/5=2.13 (3) BCG
Head count (one year)
Head count (per month)
Total number of doses for OPV
Vaccine vial needed
Infants Infants (a) (a) X No. of doses= (b)
(b ) x WMF/ no. of doses in a vial
90 90/12 = 8 8x4=32 32x1.33/20=2.13(3) OPV
Head count (one year)
Head count (per month)
Total number of doses for LPV Vaccine vial needed
Infants Infants (a) (a) X No. of doses = (b)
(b ) x WMF/ no. of doses in a vial
90 90/12 = 8 8x3=24 24X1.33/10=3.19 (4)
LPV
Head count (one year)
Head count (per month)
Total number of doses for DPT Vaccine vial
needed
Infants Infants (a) X No. of doses = (b)
(b ) x WMF/ no. of doses in a vial
90 90/12 = 8 8X2=16 16X1.33/10=2.13 (3) DPT
Head count (one year)
Head count (per month)
Total number of doses for measles Vaccine vial needed
Infants Infants (a) (a) X No. of doses (b ) x WMF/ no. of doses in a vial
90 90/12 = 8 8X2=16 16X1.33/5=4.25 (5) MEASLES
Head count (one year)
Head count (per month)
Total amount of Vitamin A (ml) Vitamin A Bottles
needed
Infants Infants
90 90/12 = 8 (8X1X1ml)+(8X2mlX8)=136
136X1.11=150ml(2 bottles)
VITAMIN A
Step 2:Calculate the No. of SyringesFor BCG we need 0.1 ml syringe
No. of BCG injections=8X1.11 (WMF) = 8.88 =9
For TT, LPV, DPT, Measles we need 0.5ml syringeNo. of TT + LPV + DPT + Measles=34+24+16+16=90 x 1.11=99.9=100
For reconstitution (BCG, Measles) we need 5ml syringe=No. of BCG vials+ No. of measles vials=(3+5) X1.11=8.88=9
Step 4: Calculate the diluents required
• Normal saline= No. of BCG vials= 3(ampoules)
Distilled water= No. of measles vials=5(ampoules)
