How to Take Control
of Workplace Stress
Stress in the workplace is inevitable, but excessive, stress is bad for employees and bad for business.
The American Psychological Society estimates that stress at work costs businesses as much as $300 billion each year through lost productivity, increased sickness and absenteeism. Here are some tips to keep stress in check:
1.) Create a productive work environment
• Organize your space. Just seeing clutter can trigger a stress response.
• Minimize interruptions such as email by dedicating specific times to respond.
• Use you schedule to your advantage. Schedule meetings when you are at your best and pencil in some down time to recover.
2.) Bring the right attitude
• Set realistic and attainable goals• Take control of what you can• Prioritize tasks from most important to least
important• Avoid self-imposed stress
3.) Get Physical
• Maintain proper posture when sitting• Get enough sleep• Eat a healthy diet & snack on high-protein items • Exercise regularly • Practice deep breathing techniques
