2. Respite-Only Services

Through Mobile Treatment Teams, Crisis Re-spite Centers, and a Peer Support Line, Parachute NYC provides alternatives to hospitalization for people experiencing the first year or so of new mental health difficulties. Parachute NYC offers rapid access to home-based treatment and crisis respite centers where people can stay in a calm, open, and supportive environment.

Parachute NYC is a city-wide initiative that rolled out in Manhattan, Brooklyn and the Bronx in 2013 and Queens in 2014. Staten Island referrals are di-rected to Manhattan’s services. In Brooklyn, Para-chute NYC works exclusively with young people (ages 18-30) experiencing a first episode of a serious mental health issue.

Brooklyn home-based treatment is provided by Woodhull Need-Adapted Mobile Crisis. (718) 260-7725.

The Brooklyn Crisis Respite Center is staffed and operated by Services for the UnderServed. (347) 505-0870.

The city-wide Peer Support Line is provided by Community Access. (646) 741-HOPE.

wHat is PaRaCHute NYC? BRooklYn CRisis ResPite CenteR activities aNd ameNities Stay and participation in activities is voluntary. Guests of the Crisis Respite Center have access to the following: • Free 24/7 peer support in a safe, friendly, home- like environment• Stays of 1 to 14 days• 10 individual bedrooms and 5 bathrooms• Psycho-educational support• Peer support groups• Fun, recreational, and social support groups

The SUS Brooklyn Crisis Respite Cemter is lo-cated on a beautiful residential street in Browns-ville, Brooklyn. The center is located near shop-ping and is just minutes from the #3 train.

eligiBilitY For resPite care

To stay at the SUS Brooklyn Crisis Respite Center, individuals must meet the following requirements:

• 18-65yearsold• Experiencingafirst-episodeofaseriousmen tal health issue (within one year of onset of symptoms or has limited involvement us ing mental health services) • Voluntarilyseekingoracceptingservices• Medicallystable• ResidentofBrooklyn• Instablehousing(nothomeless)• Not at imminent risk to themselves or others such that he/she requires a higher or different level of care • Does not have a diagnosis of dementia or organic brain syndrome
