• With grant support from the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, C4 and YPR are developing and evaluating new approaches to support youth who screen as low to moderate risk for substance use.

• C4 will partner with six communities to implement Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) and link adolescents to a brief mentoring intervention, with the goal of enhancing positive social supports and other protective factors.

Looking ahead• While the pilot phase of this study will engage

approximately 20 adolescents at each site, our goal is to establish an SBIRT-based, peer-delivered brief intervention approach that can be widely replicated.

• The intervention design calls for the engagement of a broad range of prevention, treatment, and recovery stakeholders, which strengthens a community’s capacity to prevent problem substance use.
