THREE IN TEN CHILDREN ARE IN COLOMBIAN POVERTY: UNICEF
(JARVEY): Many children do not have access to covered services that are key to their development.
(LEIDY): A UNICEF report on child poverty in Colombia revealed that in 2011, 34 of 100 children suffering from multidimensional poverty.
(PAULA): While it is a high figure and cares, its reduction is remarkable: in 2008 accounted for 43 percent of the child population.
(GABRIELA): The study focuses on the variables that are rights of children: education, nutrition, health, water and sanitation, housing, economic security, safety, leisure and recreation, and access to information.
(DANIEL): According to the report, the age group with the highest level of poverty is to children 3 to 5 years, with 37 percent.
(JARVEY): Still teenagers, with 35.2 percent.
(LEIDY): Children 6 to 11 years, with 33.6 percent.
(PAULA): And the children of 0-2 years, with 28.6 percent.
(GABRIELA): In education, UNICEF found that 80 percent of children aged 3-5 years are access to education.
(JARVEY): The director of the Restrepo Barco Fundation, Mario Gomez said that the issue was not only poverty, but also domestic violence and nutritional status.
(LEIDY): Mario Gomez said that the 34 percent of children affected by poverty was the third of the child population.
(PAULA): Gomez said that was urgent to address the nutritional status, especially among indigenous and African populations.
(GABRIELA): He said that it should not be taken as a game recreation and use of leisure time.
(DANIEL): He said that poverty makes crime and guerrilla groups.
(JARVEY): Mario Gomez told the Newspaper El Tiempo that the poorest regions of the country are Chocó, La Guajira, Córdoba, Nariño and San Andrés.
(LEIDY): Gomez said that peace was essential for eradicating poverty and achieving peace in the country.
(PAULA): He said that the efforts should focus on food security, in order to raise levels of micronutrients and learning ability of children.
(GABRIELA): Mario Gomez said that had to ensure water service, because without it there is no life, and to make education coverage and quality.
