i n t rOWe shouldn’t really be surprised when the keynotes at an advertising festival use their speaking slots to plug their own brands. Yahoo’s CEO Marissa Meyer, however, delivered a buzzword-laden, teleprompter-dependent sales pitch that verged on the infomercial. She did try and include a few art metaphors to soften the blow, but we couldn’t help but feel like we were getting pumped the entire time. Here’s what she’s selling:

search Yahoo! claims this is their heritage (which may be true) and they seem prepared to battle it out with Bing for the several hundred search queries each year that are not performed on Google.

contentThey’ve hired some big-name editors and built some large teams to populate their ‘Digital magazines’ in Sports, Food, Travel, Business and fashion. It’s not entirely clear if anyone has told them about Flipboard.

mobIleWe’re talking mainly Flickr and Tumblr here, two acquisitions that are getting leveraged into other Yahoo titles (think Flickr photos to illustrate weather apps on mobile) and there was a lot of talk about artists and curation. It remains to be seen if there will be equal talk around revenue.

vIdeoMayer was a little more circumspect about Yahoo’s plans in this field, but hinted that they’ll be working on personalization to deliver video content that’s both relevant and surprising. They’ve also commissioned two original series, venturing into Netflix territory.
