A Chunk of Mars

No, we’re not kidding. Ever wanted to snap up a

Martian hunk of rock as a present for your loved

one? Want them to really feel like they can

touch the stars (or planet in this case)? A piece of a meteorite which was formed on the red planet crashed landed on earth, and will set you back $450,000 (or £ 294,383).



The Meaning of Life

This isn’t a DVD copy of the extremely clever

Monty Python sketch, unfortunately.

Instead, a seller from North Carolina decided

to sell his information which apparently

discovered the reason for existence.

Unfortunately, neither the seller or the

buyer has released this information to

the public. This immensely important

piece of information sold for a

whopping $3.26 (£2.13)



The Original Hollywood Sign

The iconic sign’s previous owner put the landmark up for auction asking the winning bidder to have “exciting plans for it”.After being replaced by newer lettering in 1978, the original sign was put up for an asking price of $300,000 (£196,255) and sold for a gigantic $450,400 (£294,644) in 2005.



Albert Einstein’s Handwritten Letters

In 2007, a openly worded letter from the genius that is Einstein to a Jewish philosopher caused a bit of a media frenzy when it appeared on a well known internet auction site.

In the letter he bluntly defended his views on human nature, religion and ethics, and it sold for a massive $3,000,100 (£1,962,619)



A Tuscan Village: Pratariccia

The owners of Pratariccia’s real estate decided to end their run of failed selling attempts by offering the village up for auction over the internet

Boasting 25 houses over 20 acres of land,

they eventually found a buyer who paid

$3.1 million (£2,02,797) for it.

Even though they found a buyer, the

village was sold for $1.9 million

(£1,242,951) less than their original

asking price



New Species of Sea Urchin

Found by Simon Coppard of the Natural

History Museum on an internet auction, a

new species of sea urchin was discovered

lurking the internet waves.

Usually discovered by marine biologists

in its ocean home, this specimen fetched

$138.00 (£90.28) in the auction.



The Town of Bridgeville

The entire town of Bridgeville was put up for internet auction in 2002 with an asking price of $750,000 (£490,638). Boasting that the buyer could even acquire his or her own postal code, the town was eventually sold for $1.25 million (£817,731) and revamped and sold on again.
