SOFTWAREIn our production we used a software called final cut pro, which helped us pull together our whole production by letting us add in sound effects, put our clips together and etc. To make our production better we got to see if some things fit into our narrative and to see if some things did not, for example making sure we did everything right like the 180 degree angle that took a while editing in. However we did find out that one clip of the antagonist in the bath did not fit in well with our score, so we took this clip out of our production with help from the software of final cut pro, it was very hard trying to get the exact moment of the score that fit in with the shots of our scenes for example the score fitting in with the disequilibrium of the antagonists appearing in the bath tub of the bathroom scene. We had short takes in the bathroom as it connoted the time that has passed without his partner being there and the idea of running out of time because his partner comping to haunt him, the short takes also connote the intense emotion confusion that the protagonist is feeling because he doesn't know what is going on and is trying to find out what is wrong.Furthermore this software enabled us to edit clips to correct length of the clip that we wanted it to be. To either make them longer or shorter connoting the feelings of the character in the particular scene. In addition to this we used colour grading with all our scenes in the production to make the locations appear more depressing and dull to the eye which again sets the tone of the production and The fade in and out will help create the mood that we want to represent in our opening scene. Furthermore the colour grading feature of final cut would be important in our scene because it can make the scene either happy with warmer contrasts of colour or by making the scene more tense and dramatic by making the scene have a darker tone which can connote sadness and grief which our characters both feel in the narrative which is scenes throughout our production In our production final cut pro helped our group add in a orchestral sound to it made from a friend that composed it to fit to each shot of our production. With fitting in out score within our production final cut pro helped us to make it the best that it possibly could be. Final cut pro also helped us add in credits to notify the audience the producer, directors etc. Also from using all our equipment i do think that we used the correct equipment as from all of our technical research that we found out. However i do believe that we could've done more research into the camera i think we could've used a more clear camera for example i think a go pro would’ve been better as it would have made our filming more defined and clear, it would've made the audience as if they were there in the narrative.

we used colour grading to make the locations appear to be dull and gloomier than it is (sympathetic background) connoting that even tho they are both happy something bad will happen having in the narrative leaving the audience off edge and wanting to know what is going to happenfrom finding the text that we thought best fit our narrative was one that we found on Final cut pro, however we did research lots of fonts on websites and books such as “da font” but we felt that the best font was on Final cut pro, as the font is bold and we felt it compared and connoted to the antagonist as everything that she did like writing on the mirror, slamming doors and turning on taps was very bold and wanted to get her point across,. This also represents Gauntlets empowered female, as she is over powering the man, making him look weak, we edited it to be on the top of the mirror because it draws the attention to the title but not too much to distract the audience. In our narrative we also used red handwriting that was written on the mirror saying ‘i will never forgive you’ we situated it eye level to the man, because this shows that it is challenging the stereo type of woman being below men. It also shows that the female antagonist thinks as if she is equal to the man and in a sense more important than him.

PRESENTATIONS Some examples of software representations that we used were: slideshare, powtoon, prezi, youtube and amaze. We used these ways to present our work because it made our tasks and ideas aesthetically pleasing to the viewers looking at our work. It also made our research overall look organised but allowed us as a group to show our different styles and individuality that came together making our overall piece.

HARDWARE-CAMERA SETTINGS

The camera that we used to film our production of unperceived was the Panasonic HDC-TM900 Full HD Camcorder. This type of camera had settings that controlled manually the white balance that had to be used when filming as it appeared to be too yellow and didn’t show the true colours of the scene that we were filming which would've set the tone as another feeling for example the yellow tone may of connoted happiness and peace and that was not the aim for our production we wanted dull colours. Furthermore for our production we used the auto focus on this camera which made the image more clearer and made the quality better. Moreover for our shots to be still we also used a tripod that was very useful in all of the different locations that were used in our production to keep stability throughout filming, as to start off we tried filming without a tripod and it mad the filming look blurry and bumpy for example in the first scene of filming protagonist and antagonist we were going to track forwards and backwards but this was changed later on because when filming on the gravel with the dolly it was too shaky and the wood we brought to to decrease the shakiness. From this i have learnt more skills in using a camera and filming with a camcorder. Also In our narrative we didn't use any key framing, but if we were going to use key framing it could've looked good when everyone was a still image at the funeral scene, and the camera panned around them making them look like they are moving or something was circling them, as this would've connoted that the antagonist is watching them.

LIGHTING

The lighting we could have used, could have been high lighting and low lighting. We had problems with getting the correct lighting as it looks dull and gloomy in some scenes. We had difficulties with lighting in our locations. For example the bathroom scene was only accessible to high lighting or no lighting. This meant we had to use little lights around the bathroom that gave some light, instead of using the big bright lamp on the ceiling which would’ve given the wrong impression to that scene. We also had problems with the first scene being outside because we only had natural light. Which was bright but we wanted a more brighter light to connote happiness. We could have used lighting equipment at school like LED lights and the separate frame that come with different colours e.g red, yellow and white which would've decreased the colour in post production.

In our production we used a H4N recorder to record the foley sounds for the bathroom scene for example the taps coming on, shower turning on and door slamming. From using this piece of hardware it enabled us to have clearer sound and had a higher quality for our production. Furthermore the recorded sound of the door slamming didn't record as well as we expected because it was not at a high standard like all the others foley sounds recorded, and the sound of the slamming in our production echoes and gives the shot an unrealistic tone that we could not be fixed. Overall with using a H4N recorder it made our sounds sound more realistic and exaggerated the sounds (excluding the door slamming) making it more scary and making the audience feel more uneasy whilst watching. We used a H4N because the camera that we used, didn't have the best sound when recorded, the camera did not have directional mics but came separate with the camera but however we did not use, because for some reason you couldn't hear the sound without coming close to the character and this was shown on the camera screen which we did not want. However we had to re-record the slamming of the door as originally we used the camera but when we went back to listen to it, it sounded unrealistic and had low verisimilitude from the grainy recorded sound. From this we recored the sound with the H4N I think we could've recorded more sounds with a H4N recorder for example to the walking of footsteps for example when the male character is seen to be walking over to the shower to turn it off. I believe it would of made the scene more intense and help increase the suspense and give the viewer emotional pleasure through feeling anxious for the protagonist. However we did not record our own score, we had a group member make an original sound not only because it would attract a more sophisticated audience by having an original score, but because i haven’t had experience of editing our own non-diegetic score on other software like Garageband.

IMPROVEMENTS FOR THE FUTURE

improvements for the future i think would be to increase my skills on final cut pro as I'm not as confident as i think i could be, i found adding in sound difficult but i think towards the end of completing our production i got better. I think for our production we could've made the sound more realistic for the foley sound of the door slamming, because i think overall it may of given a more realistic sound to the particular sound as its very important for the sound to be accurate in that intense scene, But we did re-record the sound of the door slamming because the sound did not match the action of the clip creating a more realistic sound to the audience.Furthermore i think also improving my skills on the camera settings because i found it also difficult setting the camera on different settings like the colour. But again by this i think i wont have a problem with this next time as in my opinion i think that i have learnt from these problems.
