MEMORANDUM – UNAUTHORISED ABSCENCE

I would like to remind you of the rules and policy for being absent from work. If for any unexpected reason (e.g. illness, some kind of an emergency) you cannot come to work you are obliged to inform either myself or Chris King in my absence. In the event that anyone fails to do so, then this is inevitably treated as unauthorised absence, which can be, depending on the extent, treated as a serious misconduct, which, will be treated with disciplinary action. Time out of work, which has been unauthorised will not be reimbursable from the company, i.e. you will NOT be paid for that period, regardless of the justification. Mobile phone texts or calling another member of staff other than John Baxevanidis or Chris King is NOT deemed as an acceptable notification of your absence. On the rare occasion that John Baxevanidis or Chris King are both absent, then and only then Doug Gardiner or John Lewis should be notified As a courtesy and respectfulness, please avoid sending mobile phone texts. Although, in the event of no apparent means of making a phone call, a text will be adequate. Statistically, the most used excuse is that nobody answers the phone and hence you gave up. When this is used, please don’t insult everybody else’s intelligence! (KEEP TRYING) This process is also about respecting your colleagues who end up with undeserved stress because (again statistically) you most likely couldn’t be bothered to get out of bed. Finally, although this should be common sense and is also part of the handbook, I want to give the chance to everybody to read this and be aware of the way forward, and hence I will consider this reminder as a point in time where this will apply from now on.
