European hotel distribution study by HOTRECIf we compare 2013-2015:
• Share of overnight bookings via OTAs raise
from 19,5 to 22,5%
• Share of direct bookings decreased from 59 to 55%
• Small hotels significantly more dependent on OTAs
• Share of biggest player (Booking.com) increasing from 60
to 63%
• Market towards a duopoly (Expedia) / monopoly?
• No signs of increased OTA competition after narrow
parity clauses (91,5% not received reduction in
commission rates)

Reduction of Food Waste
� Revision of Waste Frame Directive adopted Jan. 2017 by ENVI ( Environm.,Public Health &
food Safety ), report adopted by EP in March and by
Council before 1st semester 2017.
� Content of the action
• Aim to reduce food waste across food chain - 1/3 of
food produced is thrown away,
• 12 % of food wast from hospitality industry
• No obligation but aim to achieve, reduction target
30% by 2025 and of 50 % by 2030
� HOTREC to ensure
• Guideline brochure with 8 pillars
• Measurement of waste by State, not by businesses
• Tax/financial/legal incentives to help businesses reduce
waste

Final Adoption of new EU Regulation on official controls
Will be adopted by EP on the 15th of March 2017. Inspection fees are not
mandatory but member states can charge fees if they wish so. May set up rating
schemes on the hygiene performance BUT there are no obligations to publish the
results of the individual hygiene controls.
Digital Issues – EP is working on an own initiative report on Online Platforms,
draft available since 28th of February 2017, adoption expected mid of May 2017.
Aim – devoted to B2B relations and EU competition law, platforms should provide
consumers with more transparency in search results & regulate problem of
dominance of platforms.
Data Protection – on the 10th of January 2017 the EC issued a
Communication on the strategic approach to international personal data transfers.

EC published „Key principles for Comparison Tools“ against unfair practices
Individual property rights !
AccessiblityEuropean Accesibility Act discussion in the EP accelerates, proposal for a directive.
Tourism to be covered ? UNWTO took lead in ISO standard on Accesibility in
Tourism.
HOTREC position: already regulated at national level, low adaption capacity of
micro enterprises, enough voluntary initiatives with organisations of people with
disabilities.
