TitleBelbin Team Roles

So, who are you? When I mean by that, I dont mean your name, but I am asking what you are, in a team. Have you guys ever wondered how you were always displayed a certain behaviour in a team setting? Or you worked differently when you met a particular type of person? The role you play is very important, because we need to find out about ourselves and be more aware, so we know how to be a better communicator and team player. 2

What why do you need to know yourself, and others in a team? This is because in every team, you will have people from all walks, and it is important that in a team that you have people who wear different hats. A team full of dominating and challenging people, arent going to get anywhere.3

Belbin Team Roles

Dr Belbin defined a team role as "a tendency to behave, contribute and interrelate with others in a particular way" and named nine such team roles that underlie team success.

One particular person, whos test is widely acclaimed today is Dr Bebin. He said that (_____). So we are going to reveal to you, what each of the role you did was. Hands up, who did it? Okay for the ones who dont can you just look at them all, and just put down if you think one of them is you. 4

Strengths:

Talent to see the bigger pictureConfident, stable and mature in recognizing abilities of others Good at delegating tasks Clarifies decisions, gives focus Weaknesses:

Perceived to be power hungry and manipulativeTend to delegate all the work and nothing for them to doCan conflict with others who stand up against them

Coordinator

Strengths:

Resource Investigator

Strengths:

Can be seen as close minded and inflexible as they cannot deviate from their well thought out plansUnable to work with inefficiency or considering alternative practices from well-established practices

Implementer

Strengths:

Can frustrate teammates by worrying about excessive minor detailsMay find it hard to delegate tasks they dont trust anyone to perform

Complete Finisher

Strengths:

Good listeners and diplomatsSmoothing conflicts and helping parties understand each otherNon confrontational Usually unappreciated and unnoticed until they are absent and conflicts arise Weaknesses:

Unwillingness to take sides, they may not take decisive action when needed Not as assertive or dominant

Team Worker

Strengths:
