DESCRIPTION

In recent years the role of the leader has shifted. Where previously leaders were characterised as strategists, they are now required to be visionaries. It is no longer enough to have a plan for your organisation. Leaders must be able to articulate and inspire others with their vision for the firm’s future. No longer can leaders sit comfortably in the commander’s chair; distributing orders with no requirement to explain their actions. Modern business thinkers portray leaders as storytellers. Great leaders are a figurehead for their organisation, an ambassador for the company’s personal story, narrating the firm’s vision and values to secure buy-in from employees, investors and clients alike. Their words must be clear, direct and aligned to their actions. Finally, it is no longer enough to simply create and impose the firm’s modus operandi, enforcing systematic adherence from the top down. Instead, modern business gurus portray the perfect leader as a change agent and servant of his or her employees. The leader’s job is to drive enthusiasm and commitment for change, inspiring employees and helping them to overcome obstacles and serve customers. The organisation should look outwards, supporting those in a client facing role. http://www.bigrockhq.com/the-role-of-the-leader-has-shifted/
