HANDGUN PLACEMENT

• Everyone has their own preferences, but it is nice to know what the positives and negatives are of each holster option.

• The most important thing to think about is which holster keeps you the safest and by doing so is the most effective.

• Ankle holsters like many other holsters have their benefits and flaws.

• What are the main reasons someone would carry an ankle holster?

WHY CARRY AN ANKLE HOLSTER

• Ammunition Carry Capacity

• Easy to access on the ground

• People wont notice it if they accidentally bump into you

• Easier to access in a sitting position

REDUCED EFFECTIVENESS

• The typical argument for ankle carry enthusiasts is that it can be easily accessed if you are in a car.

• In any other situation however, the ankle holster typically reduces overall effectiveness.

• As a primary concealed carry holster an ankle holster usually isn’t the best option.• If you are interested in some other options, visit this blog about

choosing a concealed carry holster.

SPEED AND ANKLE HOLSTERS

• Ankle holsters require someone to be quick in a high stress scenario.

• With a bad back or possible other conditions, someone may have trouble bending over to draw their gun.

• An outside the waistband holster is a much more effective option for quick access to the firearm without so much effort to reach for it.• Check out the Alien Gear OWB holster to help give you this better reach.

COMFORT AND DIFFICULTY

• Ankle holsters take more time and effort to put on than a typical OWB or even an inside the waistband holster.

SITUATION SPECIFIC• You can’t always make use of an ankle holster

• When you purchase a holster, it is best to have one that is mostly universal.

• In the summer for example, you can’t exactly wear shorts and make use of your ankle holster.• If you want to know more about being ready for concealed carry in the summer

view seasonal concealed carry.

SITUATION SPECIFIC (CONT.)

• Shorts aren’t the only obstacle that people will run into

• Some pants just plain wont work • Too tight around the leg

• Even if you can manage to get the gun in the holster, good luck getting it out of tight pants in a dire situation.

FIGHTING CHANCE LOWERED• What has the faster draw? An inside the waistband or an ankle holster?

• Ankle holsters may be an alright holster in a sitting down position.• Most of the time you can reach a few inches to an IWB and have the chance to grab

your gun right then and there.

FIGHTING CHANCE LOWERED (CONT.)

• If your attacker is in close quarters with you, you probably don’t have time to reach for your obvious ankle holster, so a better option is probably the IWB in this case.

• It is a very large doubt that you are “tying your shoes” in a situation like this and the attacker will most likely catch on to you reaching for your firearm.

MAINTENANCE AND USABILITY

• Must be comfortable for everyday life activities.

• Using an ankle holster means the gun moves with your legs.• Every step you take can put a toll on the gun• The firearm is closer to the ground requiring more maintenance due to any

possible dirt or debris it may come into contact with.

• All in all an ankle holster doesn’t make the most sense for an everyday carry article.
