Every home basement has a basement drain installed. If the home doesn’t have a basement, then check the laundry drain. All the water waste from the house drains via this and then enters the sewer lines. Over long periods of time, sewage starts to accumulate and congest around the basement drain. The article below will provide you with steps on how to clean the drain.

Before fixing the basement drain clog, rule out the possibility of the clog happening anywhere else in the home. Work from the basement and move up throughout the home, flushing all toilets and sinks along the way to make sure the clog isn’t present elsewhere in the home.

Put on your boots and old clothing because it may get messy! Go from toilet to toilet and inspect the drain using flashlights and a can of plumbers foam. Spray the foam into the drain and then flush it after 10 seconds. You may use compressed gas to remove any physical debris.

Using chemicals, plumber’s foam will eat away and remove any waste buildups that may be causing the clog. During this process, you may find that your basement drain floods, so be sure to have a wet vacuum handy to remove any standing water and debris.

Place the drain machine about six inches away from the basement drain. Set the machine to reverse and then turn it on, and then move the drain-cleaning machine forward and backward when you feel tension or a barrier against the line.

If the drain machine comes to a complete stop then you need to turn the drain machine and reverse the motor's direction. Remove the line and put it back in the drum. Flush the toilets and check the faucets again to ensure no water comes from the basement drain.
