The Phenomena of the Ageing Better Industry
Why has this huge industry been so slow to embrace new models of care for older
citizens?
"We can't solve
problems by using
the same kind of
thinking we used
when we created
them." - Albert
Einstein
Why do we need a long
term care revolution?
To challenge the
demonisation,
assumptions
and abuse
of older citizens
in later life.
Older people are not a
homogenous group, they’re
as varied in their needs and
interests as individuals in
any other sector of the
population.
The future is already here — it's just not very evenly distributed.
William Gibson
The average life expectancy for women is now 89 are we ready to live that
long?
What has shaped the views and
expectations
of the
baby boomer generation?
Do you seriously think my generation is
dreaming of care in later life that
involves:
Being warehoused in an institution – can
an institution ever be a real home?
Isolated from family and friends without
access to the internet?
Being patronised because of my age
and ability?
My safety having to be monitored by a
CCTV camera?
Being infantilised by having to wear
incontinence pads?
I want more from my future
What do you dream about?
