In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

MASTHEAD

Mosher has a distinctive text format just like Kerrang. Mosher derived from the word ‘mosh’. Moshing is a type of dance that fans do when the are standing at gigs. They run in a circle and crowd surf. The text style used is called ‘capture it’. It has a spray paint effect and gives the magazine an effective edgy look. I chose yellow because it sis not a sex dominated colour.

KERRANG HAS A SHATTERED GLASS EFFECT. THE FONT IS BOLD CAPITALS JUST LIKE MY MAGAZINE. BLACK IS USED BECAUSE IT IS A DOMINANT COLOUR AND IT IS ALSO NOT SEX RELATED. Kerrang has a shattered glass effect. The font is bold capitals just like my magazine. Black is used because it is a dominant colour and it is also not sex related

MISE-EN SCENE OF IMAGES

The colour of the clothes emphasises the ‘rock’ culture by wearing dark clothes and hats. The two band members show friendship and closeness which is essential as it makes the magazine welcoming. The background is an old garage with peeling paint. The blue colour is neutral. It makes the two people bold. They wear similar colours so they are both seen as equal. The Kerrang magazine front image also conveys friendship. The background is white to ensure the characters are bold and stand out. The clothes they wear are also black. The band member on the left is wearing a checker shirt. That is a rock fashion symbol. On the right his hand are positioned to make a heart.

COSTUMES AND PROPS

Props and costumes are very essential for my rock magazine. Skateboards and guitars are trademarks of rock lovers. You either play and instrument or your into a sport such as skateboarding or bmx’n. The costumes are casual dress, as normal rock stars. Converse, DC and Vans are shoes that a lot of rockers wear. I guess in rock magazines you have to move with the style and fashion. In other magazines guitars are frequently put on the front covers. But I chose to out it in the contents page.

PEOPLE

Some rock artists will dress in school uniform. It can link to a child like manner of rebellion. Artists such as Guns ‘n’ Roses are quite popular for that trade and also My Chemical Romance.

I chose to have people with school uniform on the front so it also engages school kids preferably in high school to read the magazine.

TITLE FONT AND STYLE

Font and style are very important in magazines. As they show what type of magazine your reading. Is it edgy? Or classy? I wanted to make my magazine cool, fun and original. The colours I picked were neutral. White, black, blue and yellow. I wanted my magazine to be non-sexual selective. All genders should read it and of any age. Many statistics show that a majority if men read magazines such as Q and Kerrang. I wanted to change that,. I used Komika hand font for my cover line titles and blue colour backed with black blocks to stand the text out.

WRITTEN CONTENT

What you write in magazines have to be fun and enjoyable to read. It has to keep your readers wanting to read more. My title was, ‘we are a backwards band’ this will confuse them and want them to read so they can understand the article. The article is about a band called ‘silent until’ who are going to go on tour in the UK. Many teenagers and young adults like to go traveling so attending concert's and gigs is a good topic to write about. Kerrang magazines and Q will have many articles about, going on tour, new tracks releases or what happened and artists gigs and concerts.

MUSIC GENRE AND HOW YOUR MAGAZINE REPRESENTS IT

When you look at a front cover of a magazine the genre has to be obvious and bold. General rock magazines have artists posing in black clothes, skinny jeans, checker items and hats. Instruments are demonstrated and other props such as microphones, skateboards anything associated with being a rock music lover. My magazine conveys the black clothing, the skateboards a title based on a rock music dance.Kerrang submits screaming faces, instrument's and also people with piercings.

LAYOUT

Layout is important in music magazine because you wouldn't want to get confused with in what is on the page. You have to be smart in where to draw the readers attention. So titles will be bold and certain stories will be highlighted. I used many pictures in my magazine to keep it interesting. I frequently used the same colours and styles to keep a house theme. The article was set in columns. The large letter at the beginning of the article was something I picked up over many magazines who use it. Kerrang has it house theme with red, black and white throughout the magazine. Pictures are commonly used throughout and writing in articles.

The contents page was very tricky to do because colour backgrounds wouldn't fit into the theme. I came across the Kerrang contents page and I

used the style.
