In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media

products?• I have tried to make my magazine as magazine

like as possible. I have got the main title of the magazine in big bold font and have made sure it stand out for the rest of the cover.

• I have also included a slogan for my magazine so it gives the reader some information on the type of magazine it is and makes it more realistic.

• I have included a barcode in the bottom right hand side of the cover so it shows what it would look like if it was to be sold in shops.

• The cover also advertises stories and features that will appear in the magazine and the main feature is clearly advertised as it makes up the cover.

• I have tried to keep the cover quite simplistic, so it is not so busy looking, but have included bright colours to grab the readers attention.

• I found this example of a magazine, which is on the same type of genre as mine. It too has used bright colours, but has kept it simple too.

• I decided to continue the bright theme into my contents page.

• I decided not to put a picture on the contents page as I thought the articles would grab the readers attention without the need for photos.

• However like in the example of NME above, I put my articles into categories and have put page numbers down for each article.

•I have tried to make my double page spread look as realistic as possible. The main headline has a subheading to give a quick summary of the article. You can just see this in this example of a double page spread from an NME magazine.

•I have included captions of all the photos and have taken a small section of the article and highlighted it, separately from the rest of the story. This is something you see in all types of magazines, and is shown in the example below.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

• I have aimed my product at people who enjoy the genre of music electro pop.

• There is not really a specific age range that is associated with the genre of music as has been around since the mid 70’s. It represents both young people and the older generation as it is of interest to both.

• There are not any definite social groups represented as the genre of music is liked by people for different classes and social backgrounds.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

• I think that my magazine could be distributed in many different shops, as it is, at the moment, quite a mainstream genre of music that I have based my magazine on.

• It could be sold in supermarkets, newsagents and/or music shops, such as HMV.

• It could also be made into an online magazine quite easily, and it would mean it is available to a more worldwide audience.

Who would be the audience for your media product?

• My magazine is aimed at people who are interested in ‘electro/synth pop’ music.

• I feel it appeals to a large range of people as ‘electro/synth pop’ music has been around for over 3 decades and it has just made a come back in charts.

• It may also interest people who have only listened to a few tracks from various artists, but want to find out more about both the artist and the genre of music.

How did you attract/address your audience?• As I have done my magazine on electro

pop I have tried to include features that are associated to the genre.

• Such features are bright colours and the artists involved are known for being bold and different.

• I have tried to appeal to people who enjoy this music by making my magazine bold and bright and also by advertising the fact there are stories about some of the artists they know and enjoy.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

• I have learnt a lot about editing through this work. I have got to grips with the editing software “fireworks”, and have practiced using other software as well.

• I have also learnt more about photography, and how much work goes into the set up of the photo and that it is important to take a variety of photos, at different angles.

• It has also been the first time I have had to keep a blog. I have found it quite difficult knowing what to put and keeping it up to date but I feel I have learnt a lot.

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to

the full product?• I have learnt about the differences between the two magazines and how much a

magazine has to adapt to suit a certain target audience.

• I also feel I have learnt more about the importance of the layout of the different pages, especially the double page spread.

• During the preliminary task I did not plan the taking of the photos very well. However when it came to the music magazine I had to put more time and thought into the set up of the photos. I feel you can see this through the work.
