Sutton’s second annual Christmas Market
The merchants of Sutton, along withsupport from the town council andits economic development corpora-
tion and sponsor Domaine Pinnacle Ice
Cider, have once again created a festivedowntown area under canvas.
“We’ve created a village under thetents that represents all aspects of thecommunity,” said coordinator LianeBruneau, of the Corporation dedéveloppement économique de Sutton,responsible for the event and a commit-tee made up of 50 community volun-teers.
Operating under this year’s theme of,“It’s Party Time in the Village,” theChristmas Market features more than 50vendors, arts, crafts and edible delights,from both the Town of Sutton and the
Brome-Missisquoi MRC.Tents and tepees will be set up in the
municipal parking lot, the gazebo andVeteran’s Park for outdoor vendors, withadditional indoor venues in the OlivetBaptist Church, Calvary United Churchand Salle Alex & Gérard Pelletier.
“It’s a great event, lots of fun,” saidBruneau, adding, “The whole town isalive with Christmas cheer.”
In the food tent, you’ll find an abun-dance of local produce such as honey,maple syrup, pastries and breads, andseveral representatives from the area’shighly regarded wineries, including theevent’s sponsor, Domaine Pinnacle, Vig-noble Chapelle St-Angès, with white androsé wines, and ice wine, and VignobleVal Caudalie.
An outdoor stage will provide ongo-ing entertainment, ranging from tradi-tional to a hip group called PecPercussion, who will have a number ofdrums on hand for their outdoor per-formances. Regularly schedule musicalconcerts are planned in the BaptistChurch throughout the day.
Jocelyn Bérubé, Quebec’s storytellerextraordinaire, will delight story loverson Saturday, December 15, at 7 p.m., inthe United Church.
Plenty of children’s activities will takeplace during each day of the market.From face-painting, rides on an electrictrain, decoration making in the knittingboutique, Christmas crafts, to muchmore, will keep the little ones busy forhours.
A shopping rally is one of the featured
events. Win prizes each day of the mar-ket by participating in a shopping rallyby finding hidden snowmen in theshops on Sutton’s Main Street. Eachentry qualifies for the draw a basketfilled with a variety of products.
Stay warm by the many campfires setup around the site while you enjoy an ex-citing lineup of musicians and perform-ers on the outdoor stage.
This year a Villager’s Lunch, with en-tertainment, sausages and sauerkraut,and even Santa, will take place at theRoyal Canadian Legion, Branch 158 hall,at 2 Curley Street, on December 15, from11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets can be pur-chase in advance from the Sutton Infor-mation Office, at 24-A Main StreetSouth, for $12 (adults) and $6 (childrenunder 12). On the day of the luncheon,tickets will be $15 and $7 respectively.For each meal sold, $1 will go to the FirstResponders.
Every participating restaurant andcafé has developed special menus for en-joying outdoors and on the patios -soups, hot beverages such as hot chai,hot chocolate and mulled wine. Everymeal sold will raise $1, again for the FirstResponders.
Unique Christmas Markets will besold for $5 each, offering those who buya chance to win one of eight prizes witha total value of $1,600. Up for grabs aredinners for two, ski weekends, a $300wine-filled basket from Domaine Pinna-cle, two nights for two at Le Montagnard
