My photo shoot For my first shot I decided to have my models in front of a cream, plain background, which I thought would be effective as it doesn’t detract attention away from the main models. Each model has no eye contact with the camera which I didn’t think was successful as it doesn’t build a relationship with the viewers. All three models have a certain colour scheme of blacks, greys and blues. The clothes they are wearing all blend together nicely and they all match which works well. The composition of the shot isn’t very successful because the space between the models isn’t equal and balanced which makes it seem as though they aren’t close as a ‘band’ which is important to also build a relationship with the audience. For the composition I decided that the two taller members of the band would be on the outside to make it appear balanced and more equal.

My photo shoot

• For my first shot I decided to have my models in front of a cream, plain background, which I thought would be effective as it doesn’t detract attention away from the main models.

• Each model has no eye contact with the camera which I didn’t think was successful as it doesn’t build a relationship with the viewers.

• All three models have a certain colour scheme of blacks, greys and blues. The clothes they are wearing all blend together nicely and they all match which works well.

• The composition of the shot isn’t very successful because the space between the models isn’t equal and balanced which makes it seem as though they aren’t close as a ‘band’ which is important to also build a relationship with the audience.

• For the composition I decided that the two taller members of the band would be on the outside to make it appear balanced and more equal.

• For the next mid-shot I tried something different. I maintained the background I used before, although I used the information and the flaws of the first image to improve the next shots. This time I decided to have all three models looking at the camera to create a hook and a focus.

• For the composition, once again, I positioned the two taller people on the outside for balance, although I made the front model slightly foregrounded than the other two so that it would create more levels.

• I don’t particularly like this image as it’s rather blurry and not completely in focus, therefore it doesn’t really have a focus point.

• The colours are consistent throughout the images.

• This is another mid-shot. I particularly like this image because it’s clear and in focus and I also like the idea that only one of the models is interacting with the camera via eye-contact.

• When first viewing this image, the way in which the models are positioned, it seems as though there is a line of symmetry which is quite visually interesting and also frames the main model.

• The main models clothing also represents the Indie style, with his chinos, hood up and the famous ‘Hollister’ T-shirt, which represents a connection between the audience and the band as it shows the background of his lifestyle. Hollister is represented for being quite an expensive shop although working class people can afford it, which shows that the main ‘singer of the band like to be represented by an expensive brand.

• The main model is also a focal point as he is wearing clothes that are a lot more colourful than the other two.

• For this next shot I experimented once again. I decided that for this shot I would take the photos outside with a tree in the background. I decided to do this as I thought it was quite visually interesting and I also though that the light would brighten their faces.

• This shot is more of a close- up shot opposed to a mid-shot.

• I decided that the composition of this shot would be taken from the ground upwards so that the models would appear bigger than they are and this would make them seem more important and powerful.

• One of the models face doesn’t seem serious enough as the other two are.

• I think this image is the least successful as it’s blurry, the composition of the image isn’t well thought out. I don’t like the background because it takes the attention away from the models.

• The camera angle also isn’t very successful because it doesn’t show that they have any importance, and it just looks too casual. Also I prefer the image when the main model is foregrounded as that creates more of a focal point.

• The expression on their faces in this image is quite dull and they don’t look like they enjoy making their music which could result in less of a bond between them and the audience.

Evaluation of the images

After carefully analysing each photograph I took, I finally decided to utilise this as the predominant front page image. Principally, I chose this image in particular due to my strong fondness of it. However, all in all, the deciding points were: • It’s in focus• There is a visually interesting

line of symmetry• Eye-contact from the main

model to hook the viewer• A plain background has been

used which keeps the models as the main focal point.

• The central model contrasts nicely against the others, giving an attractive flare of colour.
