Use of Camera• In this music video we that we are watching a

relationship of two homosexual men and their story of how hate crimes effected their lives. The use of camera has been used extremely effectively. We see that the way the camera is being used is frantic due to the fact that majority of the music video they are running away from this character who is obviously homophobic. We can see a progression of the franticness of the piece through out the video. And first the camera doesn't move a lot but when you keep watching through you do see a massive difference to the start the end.

Editing• The use of editing in this music video had a large

impacted on the messages that the music video was trying to get across. But the editing of the clips suggested that it was destined that the relationship was going to the end badly. I got this impression because we had a shot that was at the start and then came back at the end. This could suggest that the whole situation with the hate crime was a memory. The use of the whole music video being in black and white is really effective because it suggests that it is reality and that other music videos aren't reality and that it can never happen. But in this music video showed us some true attributes that reflects the hate crimes in our society.

Mise-en-scene• The mise-en-scene in this music video is very

interesting. The clothing choice is very clever, what they did is have all the characters wear normal clothes suggesting that they are just normal people in society. But then we have the people in the gang hiding their faces with a bandana, I personally believe this means that they are hiding their true opinions from society because they know it isn't acceptable to have those views in today’s society. This is why they decide to hide their faces in the music video.

Artist Representation • Hozier made this music video very personal

to him, he had family members that went through problems with dealing with his/hers sexual issues with society. So the song was meant to suggest that love will always break down the social barrier of which sex you are interested in. If you are homosexual this doesn't effect how you feel about each other. The only problem is how society see you and how it can have a large effect on the relationship.

Meanings• The meanings that are created in this music

video is that society will always be judging you with what ever you do. So in this music video it is expressing that society is still not comfortable with homosexuals in todays society. Other big meanings that were placed inside the video was that You are always going to be judged through out your life. Society is always going to effect you.

Applying Theories • Goodwin’s theory about the songs having

meanings about what is happening in the music video. For example the song is going on about being blessed by the church for being a homosexual. And in the music video you could suggest that they chavs are actually the church trying to shut down the relationship.
