Early Bird

• Early Birds will assist with barricade placement and are up moving most of their shift.

• Barricades are important because they restrict vehicles from entering the route. Without barricades, we have no open street!• Once the street is closed, only permitted

vehicles are allowed on the route during scheduled times.

Page 19: Open Streets OKC Volunteer Training (Spring 2015)

occhd.org/wellnessnow TEAM UP FOR A HEALTHY COMMUNITY

Early Bird• The goal of the Early Bird shift is

to have the street shut down by 10AM.

• Barricades are pre-assembled on the curb. Volunteers will pull them into the street to block traffic.

• Rolling closure: walking block by block on either side of streets blocking traffic as you go.

Page 20: Open Streets OKC Volunteer Training (Spring 2015)

occhd.org/wellnessnow TEAM UP FOR A HEALTHY COMMUNITY

Intersection Monitors• Intersection monitors assist Oklahoma City

Police Department officers in ensuring that vehicle traffic remains off the route and lots that are blocked with barricades.

• Familiarize yourself with your surroundings and keep an eye out for safety hazards.

• Allow food trucks, service providers, and permitted participants through barricades.

• By permit only!

Page 21: Open Streets OKC Volunteer Training (Spring 2015)

Route Rabbit• Requires you to bring your bicycle!

• Ride through your assigned zone to ensure that barricades remain in place, trash is not overflowing, no safety hazards, etc.

• You act as the eyes and ears of Open Streets OKC. Report any issues to the nearest block or zone captain in your zone.
