POPULAR SNAKES TO KEEP AS PETSJosh Ruffell
INTRODUCTION In his role as an animal trainer and presenter with the Universal
Studios theme parks in both Hollywood, California, and Osaka, Japan, Josh Ruffell garnered significant experience working with a wide variety of animals. A professionally trained wildlife consultant and zoo curator, Josh Ruffell has maintained an interest in animals, especially reptiles, since childhood.
Reptiles are not ordinary house pets, however snakes, though fierce predators, can become friendly and docile with the proper care and handling. Snakes often chosen as pets include:
1. Corn Snake. The most popular snake to be kept as a pet in the United States, the corn snake is known for its calm demeanor and is commonly seen in the wild in the southeastern states.
SNAKES 2. Red-Tail Boa. A member of the boa constrictor
family, red-tails typically grow to around 10 feet in length and can live for up to 30 years.
3. Ball Python. Like the corn snake, in captivity the ball python is docile and often recommended as a first-time pet.
4. King Snake. Small to medium sized and generally have a mild temperament, king snakes are known to consume other snakes, hence their name, and are therefore housed by themselves.
