This month we saw the world’s largest trade fair for retail investment requirements, EuroShop 2017, draw to a close in Düsseldorf, Germany. This year the show comprised of over 2,368 exhibitors from 61 nations around the globe.   This was the 3rd show I have attended and first with Communisis as it is only held every 3 years. As before the sheer scale of the event was mind blowing. Over 113,000 visitors came to the Rhine to gather information on the range of products, trends and concepts for retailers and their partners on display.

4 For the second year running we were also delighted to host some of our clients and showcase our knowledge and experience in utilising innovative display solutions to drive product sales. This year our attention was draw to the use of digital, lighting and on shelf technology given the future of retail will lie firmly in the hands of shoppers who roam across multiple channels - be it at stores, on a Tablet or Smartphone.   In order to maximise the visit we set a little challenge for the client and ourselves. A Euroshop Scavenger Hunt. 20 tasks were carefully designed to identify the best suppliers; innovation and technology available to ensure brands are keeping ahead of the competition in store and online. The location of each exhibit ensured we were able to meander throughout the 18 halls effectively and utilize the time to plan which suppliers would be best to re visit. The competition was well received and everyone had great fun.

5   The most innovative solution that I believe would work well in store for multiple clients was the use of efficient electronic point-of-purchase and in particular the revolutionary Electronic Paper Displays (EPD). The flashing attention grabbing EPD displays are thin, light and run on small batteries, which last around 2 years. The POS items can be easily deployed in store and can be updated to project current promotions.   The EPD units are said to increase brand sales by around 66% against the use of traditional printed signage.

For me the show was a great success and as always there was too much to see in the time we had available.
