Sanded and Refurnished: How Antique Hardwood Flooring Made My Home’s New Floors Look StunningSo here’s how it started - my experience with Antique Hardwood Flooring (AHF). We wanted to get the floors in our house sanded and stained. So the journey began: the moving of the furniture, the blaring noise of the sanding equipment, the smell of new varnish. I even took photos of the process the whole way!

As an experience, moving all of the furniture out of the house was burdensome. It was the most labor-intensive and involved thing I had ever done for any kind of home renovation we took part in. As a result, however, it was so worth it. The floors look beautiful. So now you’re wondering the obvious. What made Antique Hardwood Flooring’s approach so unique from my perspective? Let me walk you through the process of what they did.

Phase One - Upstairs

Scope The scope of this project was to sand and refinish all of the hardwood upstairs. This meant the bedrooms and hallways.

Process1. Fixing the Creaky Floors - For the longest time, there was a creak in my bedroom

whenever I walked in a certain area. It was one of the first things the company did. That’s dedication to meet customer satisfaction.

2. Taking Out the Railings - We had to get the railings re-done. During this time they sanded the stairs all the way to the basement level and kept us informed, the whole way!

3. Sanding and Staining the Upstairs - The sanding took a few days, but it was very quick. AHF’s on-site staff were very dedicated to getting it done, which is something you don’t see in every company.

4. Letting it Dry - We had to wait a few days to let the floors dry before we could put furniture back on the floors. Letting varnished wood dry is a very important part of the process. You also need to make sure the air isn’t too dry or the wood will crack.

Phase Two - Main FloorThe scope of this project was to sand and refurnish all the hardwood on the main floor of our house. They had to do the living room, dining room and the study.

1. Sanding the Floors In All the Rooms - Antique Hardwood Flooring sanded all of the floors in the middle floor rooms. That process was quick!

2. Staining and Varnishing the Floors - Next they moved on to staining all of the floors. We had a tarp wall up in between the kitchen and the main floor as well as the main hallway and the basement. Then they varnished the floors and we had to let them dry. We could finally move the furniture back into our rooms again!

3. Letting It Dry - They used fans to lessen the odour in the rooms where they had varnished the floors. They were very diligent about it. They always had the fans running.

And that’s about it. All of the floors were really well done. The results are amazing, and although we as a family had to go through a lot of labour to bring all the furniture back inside, it was well worth it in the end. AHF’s on-site staff were very diligent and dedicated to finishing what they said they were going to do, and to me that’s their advantage. Who knew the end result could be so rewarding to see finished!
