8 Settings Can Be Turned off in iOS 8

Some settings automatically enabled in iDevice with iOS 8 may be the settings

you don’t want to turn on at all. Additionally, the more settings are enabled, the

more power is consumed. Thus, it is recommended for you to turn off the

unnecessary settings such as the 8 options below.

1. AirDrop

Although AirDrop is helpful in sharing your pictures or files with your friends,

you can turn it off when it is not in use. To be specific, swipe up from the bottom

of the screen to open Control Center, click AirDrop and select Off in the pop-up

menu, as shown in the following picture.

2. Notifications

Some new notifications of the apps are really annoying and not useful for you,

so go to close their notifications according to the guidance below.

Access Settings > Open Notifications > Choose an app > Turn off Allow

3. Updates

To disable automatic downloads and updates of apps’ latest versions when

your iDevice is connected to network, you can turn off Apps and Updates in

Settings/iTunes & App Store.

4. Background App Refresh

For longer battery life, you can disallow apps to refresh their content when on

Wi-Fi or cellular in the background, which can be realized by turning off

Background App Refresh in Settings/General/Background App Refresh. Of

course, you can turn it off for only specified apps.

5. Predictive

Predictive may reveal your account password or other significant info when you

type them on the screen keyboard, so you can turn it off in

Settings/General/Keyboards when necessary.

6. Motion

The parallax effect of icons and alerts on the user interface may not be practical

and attractive for everyone. If it is also the case for you, you can go to turn on

Reduce Motion by means of the following guidance.

Enter Settings > Open General > Click Accessibility > Choose Reduce Motion >

7. Handoff

Handoff lets you start something on one device and instantly pick it up on other

devices via your iCloud account. Supposing that the function is useless for you,

you can turn it off in Settings/General/Handoff & Suggested Apps.

8. Spotlight Search

You can use Spotlight Search to find the results of Music, Videos, Notes, Mail,

etc. However, if you think there is no necessity to turn on Spotlight Search for

some apps, you can turn it off for apps selected in Settings/General/Spotlight

Search.
