2013 – LOOKING BACK OVER THE YEARHello there, just a short article reviewing the trials and tribulation of life and business so far for 2013.

2013 has been an exciting year even though the business climate here in Queensland has been quite subdued. My partner gave birth to our daughter Katelyn late December 2012, so this year has been a massive learning curve in terms of family life.

In terms of business activity and profit, we have been trundling along quietly and have even grown slightly from the year before. We are hoping that the recent increase in business confidence will convert into a genuine increase in activity in the New Year. Our hopes were answered with the change of government leading to an increase in consumer confidence, so we are hopeful that increase will flow through to real $$.

We are still struggling with the recent update to Google named hummingbird, which as reduced our ranking for all of our keywords significantly. We had made it back up to the 4th page, but we have just recently dropped to the 6th page again.

We are frantically writing article and sharing photos etc in the effort to get back to the top 10 rankings for search terms such as ‘printing Brisbane’.

We were on the first page for all of our keywords for 6 months last year, and we were gaining 10 new clients per month through the website. This was significant at the time as we had been trading for 1 year and had 52 clients at the time when we started ranking well. We more than doubled the size of our client base over the following 7 months, which has stood us in good stead to weather the quiet times while we get back to the top.

I would say the biggest change we have seen this year is moving our office from Warner on the north side, to Annerley in Brisbane’s inner south. We are now much closer to the CBD and civilisation in general.

We will continue to work on our SEO over the Christmas break and hope to be ranking well again by February next year. I will keep you up to date with a report every now and again to let you know how we are going.
