Common Sense Legislation to End Gun ViolenCE

Sen. Feinstein's New Version of the Federal Assault Weapons Ban

ALABAMA

Americanguy opposedIt is unconstitutional . I am a legal law abiding citizen. Every weapon I own has required me to have a background check which I passed. Just because a hunting rifle is dressed up with hand rails, adjustable stock and a "flash suppressor" doesn't make it dangerous. Certainly not an "assault weapon". The media and others in politics have tricked the country into believing these guns are military type weapons. They are not. ...

Anonymous472596 in AL-2 supportedI own a gun. I go to church. I listen to country music. I support the passage of Common Sense Legislation to End Gun Violence. Period. End of story. Any solution to the mass shootings that have come to plague this country, no matter how well intended, are wholly incomplete without reducing the number of guns in this country and the ease with which people can gain access thereto. Comprehensive problems require comprehensive solutions and we deserve better than the inaction with which we've been so cruelly stuck. Do better. Do better now. Thank you for your time.

He should have NEVER had to make that choice, it was the right one but he should have NEVER been put in that position. His entire life was dedicated to helping people and it was snuffed out in less than 90 seconds. He was in the third row to the back of the theatre on the ground covering the love of his life with his body and a ballistic bullet from an automatic weapon blew through the seat and blew his head off. We were never even able to see him again the injuries were so severe, IN THE BACK OF THE THEATRE UNDER THE SEATS. Don't tell me Americans need automatic weapons. Get them off the street. ...

wyatt in CA-19 opposedIt limits our freedom guaranteed through the bill of rights. The 2nd amendment has nothing to do with my "right" to hunt ducks. The framers of our constitution wanted the citizens to be armed for the purpose of resisting tyranny. They wanted the citizens to have the ability to form a militia if necessary and the only way to guarantee that the new government would not become oppressive was to give the people the right to keep and bear the tools necessary to fight for their freedom if necessary. If this law is passed it will be outside of their constitutional authority. Therefore, not a law at all. You swore an oath to protect and follow the constitution of the United States. Dont break it.

A few days ago, I had to take a quick trip to Mexico due to a death in my family. On the plane back home I was reading a Mexican newspaper. There was an article about the Newtown shooting. What struck me the most was when the writer said that everybody in the US asks why these things happen, when they happen. He went on to say that nobody outside of the US doubts why these things happen and it is because this is the ONLY country in the world where people can walk into a Wal-Mart and buy an assault riffle, without a background check. ...

stevis182 opposedIt is a clear infringement on my Second Amendment rights. Supporting this legislature would be unconstitutional. In addition, there is no sound evidence that banning "assault rifles" reduces gun violence. More effort should be done to reducing illegal guns getting into the wrong hands. The shooter at Sandy Hook stole those weapons. The mother was irresponsible for not locking them up and the shooter was mentally ill. Efforts should be focused on mental health and being responsible parents and gun owners. The type of gun used in a crime is irrelevant. The gun did not kill anyone. The shooter is the one that can kill. The gun is simply an inaminate object and suggesting it causes violence or kills people simply shows how ignorant some people are. ...

I grew up hearing about senseless deaths of husbands, wives, fathers, mothers, sons, and daughters due to guns that shouldn't have been on our streets in the first place. Gun violence can happen anywhere, to anyone and at any time. Not only can it happen in places like schools and shopping centers, but also on street corners, sidewalks, or even bullets shot into houses and apartments in the middle of the night. No one is safe for as long as assault weapons are allowed on our streets....

Dano46 in NY-1 supportedIt's the right thing to do. It makes no sense to me that in 2013 we still allow people to walk around with guns in public. I believe the 2nd Amendment refers to the right to have an army during times of war. I don't think it means allowing every Tom, Dick, and Harry to carry around an automatic weapon. Gun violence disgusts me deep to my core. It is senseless and can be easily solved. And, quite honestly, I'm tired of the gun lobby having so much power. How dare they think their so-called "right" is more important than the safety and lives of our citizens. ...

Common Sense Legislation to End Gun ViolenCE

Sen. Feinstein's New Version of the Federal Assault Weapons Ban

Rhode Island

Anonymous472596 in AL-2 supportedI own a gun. I go to church. I listen to country music. I support the passage of Common Sense Legislation to End Gun Violence. Period. End of story. Any solution to the mass shootings that have come to plague this country, no matter how well intended, are wholly incomplete without reducing the number of guns in this country and the ease with which people can gain access thereto. Comprehensive problems require comprehensive solutions and we deserve better than the inaction with which we've been so cruelly stuck. Do better. Do better now. Thank you for your time.

WashingtonIrving in RI-2 opposedIt will be ineffective, disarming the law-abiding and leaving them at the mercy of criminals.Let me ask this: if all these weapons are banned, will the police be disarmed? Will officers be required to lock their weapons at the station when they end their shift? After all, if they take a weapon home, it could be taken by a disturbed family member. ...

Anonymous592944 in RI-2 supportedI can not understand why assault weapons should be in any member of society hand. They are destructive brutal weapons that serve no purpose but to slaughter and we have seen to many times what happens when they are in the wrong hands. Please for our family ban assault weapons and ammunition! I feel violated as an American that elementary children are being brutally murdered. Please help us change legislation!

RobbieAllen in SC-1 opposedAssault weapon is a politcal term, and not an accurate one. Real assault weapons, that are not sold to the public have burst fire and automatic modes. The term is a lie made to mislead the public. A pistol grip or folding stock do not make an assault weapon.

Anonymous788266 in SC-5 supportedI am a Vietnam vet. and I have seen enough killings over there we do not need all these killings here all of my family are hunters and no one needs the kind of guns that the army uses thank you.

The problem with mass shootings is not guns but culture. No amount of gun control legislation, or any legislation for that matter, will stop those who wish to do others harm. First off the removal of all guns is an impossibility so therefor legislation to try and control a certain type of gun will have no effect on violence with guns. It will only further restrict those of us who actually follow laws not be able to have weapons for our own self defense, just like the gun free zones only kept law abiding citizens from having guns that could have stopped these senseless crimes. ...

Anonymous166497 in TX-28 supportedIt's illegal to yell "Fire" in a theater (our 1st amendment right is limited for the good of many). We need to limit our 2nd amendment right to bear arms for the good of many.

magi999 in UT-1 opposedThis is a slippery slope. I am Jewish. In the last 150 years we have been disarmed too many times to count, by subsequent gradual measures. It always ended badly, with far more dead than prior to the disarmament, usually by thousands and millions. We have good "gun control"We have poor media control of nightly gunplay and fear-mongering (are they inciting?)We have no meaningful mental health system. ...

BeckSharp in UT-1 supportedI don't want our children to grow up in a weaponized state, hiding behind walls in a compound with armed guards. I don't want to be nervous about sending my child to school, or going to the mall or a movie, because anyone can obtain a weapon designed for one purpose only: mass killing. I don't want to watch America ride the slippery slope beyond redemption to become like other gun-ridden violent countries, littered with effective domestic war zones and their warlords. ...

saveourcountry opposedI feel it is a knee jerk respose with no real gain unless the goal is to disarm and hinder law abiding citizens. Criminals do not follow laws so the only people affected will be those who are honest and law abiding. Enforce the many laws already on the books, take a serious look at the mental health issue, and focus on fixing the moral decay that is running rampant in our society... that is what you should be worried about. Thanks for your time.
