PlanningBefore making my final magazine, planning had to take place so that I was aware if I was making the right decisions. It also helped me understand and apply the correct codes and conventions to my magazine.

My planning consisted of analysing the covers, contents and double page spreads of three music magazines which helped me recognise what sort of thought and designs went into real music magazines.

Questionnaires were useful to me because they gave me more of an idea of what I wanted in my magazine. Receiving information on what will look best by my target audience gave me a good sense of direction, especially when choosing fonts, price and what aspects to include within my magazine.

I also made drafts to give me an overall concept on what my magazine will be about and more importantly, what it will look like.

My drafts look similar to my actual magazine however I had to make a few adjustments such as changing the format of my masthead into two separate words instead of one. The arrangement of my article had to change as well because I was not sure about the way the image and quote were placed next to each other.

I also made another questionnaire after I had finished producing my music magazine.

I asked questions such as:

‘On a scale from 1-10 how realistic does my magazine look?’

These were my results.

Focus Group Results

My focus group gave me some positive feedback and discussed the ways in which my magazine had similar codes and conventions to real music magazines.

My magazine represents males from the age of 13-19. I aimed it at this age group because between this age group most teenagers are in education, deciding their careers and life paths.

This is an example of my target audience. He takes pleasure in listening to R&B music as he regularly buys albums and CDs of artists such as Chris Brown and Kanye West. In addition to this he frequently visits concerts and gigs of various artists which he very much enjoys.

The magazine would influence them to take part in music from reading inspirational stories. This could also lead to amazing talents which may not have been found by themselves without the help of my magazine.
