In what ways does your media product use,

develop or challenge forms and conventions of

real media products?

+The title of the magazine

The masthead of my

magazine follows the

generic codes and

conventions of music

magazines as the sans

serif font I have used is

free flowing and easy to

read, which is suitable

for the laid back urban

audience my magazine

is targeting. I used one

sole color, red for the

title as it gives the title

an edgy yet simplistic

feel which also

compliments the tastes

of my target audience.

However the large ‘U’ I

have used for the

beginning of the title

slightly challeneges the

conventions of general

music magazines as there

are no magazines that use

a larger letter at the

beginning of their title.

I feel that i have used

a range of

conventional and

unconventional

features of music

magazines to create a

unique twist on the

stereotypical urban

music magazines out

there at the moment.

+Mise-En-Scene of images

For my magazine I think a range of

conventional and unconventional

ideas have been used to connote

the mise-en-scene.

For the images of Zoe Hedge the outfits

and some of the scenery challenges the

conventions as the genre of my

magazine is urban/R&B so therefor the

fashion is not stereotypical of what the

target audience would wear. However as

the magazine is focusing more on her

story as an R&B artist, I think the mise-

en-scene of these parts adds a unique

twist to the magazine.

With other images in my

magazine I feel the mise-

en-scene connotes the

generic conventions of an

R&B magazine rather a

lot. The ‘street’ feel to the

photos of Chloe Leavesley

are stereotypical to

compliment the tastes of

the target audience.

+People

The people in my

magazine are fairly

conventional of the

stereotypes which are

seen in the R&B

magazines today. The

female image connoted

through the magazine is

what is commonly used as

my magazine is featured

more towards the female

gender, therefor I have

used a range of females to

feature in my magazine as

role models for the

audience.

However, in most R&B

magazines, females are

often connoted as sex

objects through the use

of minimal clothing and

poses. In my magazine I

have challenged this

idea, by basing my

magazine ideas on the

thoughts and feelings of

the stars, their stories

rather than their image.

+Title font and style

I used the ‘dafont’ website in order to find a

suitable font for my magazine. I chose the

‘champagne and limousines’ font as the most

suited to the style of my magazine. It is the

largest font on the page which is a generic

convention of magazines as this makes it easier

to identify as the title.

As most magazines have the generic

convention of the title in a straight line, I

have challenged this idea by tilting my

title to make it look more edgy and

appealing to the audience.

+Written content

The generic conventions of a typical music

magazine are used in my version of a

magazine, with questions such as her ideas

about being in the spotlight, what she aims to

do in the future etc. These questions are all

likely to be found in other music magazines that

are sold today, therefor I am hitting the generic

conventions used. Also the double page article

features an introduction to the artist at the start,

which also is used in other magazines regularly

making this a generic convention also.

The contents page

also compliments the

generic conventions

of music magazines

as it is split into two

parts ‘features’ and

‘march specials’

which are commonly

used in other

contents pages in

order to break up the

text to make it more

manageable to read

and identify different

articles.
