Significant Activity: Nov 17 – 18 Significant Events: Severe Weather Outbreak

Tropical Activity:

• Atlantic – Area 1 (Invest 98L) (High - 90%)

• Eastern Pacific – Tropical cyclone activity not expected next 48 hours

• Central Pacific – No tropical cyclones expected through Tuesday night

• Western Pacific – No activity threatening U.S. territories

Significant Weather:

• Showers and thunderstorms – Gulf Coast to Northeast

• Moderate to heavy rain – Pacific Northwest and northern CA

• Heavy snow – Pacific Northwest, Northern Rockies and upper Great Lakes

• Elevated Fire Weather Areas: Central Plains; Red Flag Warnings – None

• Space Weather: Past 24 hours: none; next 24 hours Minor/R1 radio blackouts likely

Earthquake Activity: M7.8 – Scotia Sea (near South Sandwich Islands)

Severe Weather Outbreak – Nov 17-18 Summary:

• Severe thunderstorms moved eastward across the Middle

Mississippi Valley, Lower Great Lakes, and Ohio Valley

• Producing:

• Straight-line winds up to 85 mph

• Golf-ball sized hail

• Tornadic activity (including at least one tornado preliminarily

rated as EF-4) to parts of IL, IN, MI and OH

Impacts

• Shelters:

• IL: 8 with 17 occupants

• IN: 2 with 5 occupants

• OH: 1 with no occupants (as of 7:00 am EST)

• 6 confirmed fatalities and 37 unconfirmed injuries in IL

• Power outages region wide: 650,895 (Peak 753,342) (DOE 5:00am

EST)
