It gives me great pleasure to release May 2016 issue of the trauma Centre newsletter. The NIS are to be com-mended for collating the material and taking out the newsletter on a regular basis and activities such as these differentiate us from other hospitals and centers. It is now close to One – Decade (26 November 2006) since JPNATC started to function on a trial basis for one year and became fully functional in November 2007. Trauma

Centre, AIIMS has become a benchmark role model, not only Nationally but in the International Arena as well, continues to set an example in trau-ma care across India and has become a brand on its own right. JPNATC has been mentoring upcoming Trauma Care facilities in the Country and in South Asia.

Our Faculty, Nurses, Residents and Other staff have won many accolades and awards. That is the testimony to the policies and protocoled patient care, which is unparalleled. All this has been made possible by sheer hard work by put in by different teams towards improving the care and services in our respective areas. WHO declared 5th May 2016 Hand Hygiene Day with the theme “See Your Hands – hand hygiene supports safe surgical care". Dr. Purva Mathur and her team of HICN worked overtime to involve everyone and organized healthy competition amongst teams from different divisions of JPNATC for coming out with posters and slogans. That was wonderful and we sincerely acknowledge their immense contribution to-wards infection control.

I congratulate the entire IT department of Trauma Centre lead by Dr. Deepak Agrawal and his team of NIS for making us proud that the Centre is one of the most IT enabled hospitals in the country. JPNATC is serving as a model for replication across other ED’S and trauma centres in the en-tire SE Asia. It is important that we do not become complacent with our laurels but rededicate ourselves to further improve the quality of care pro-vided to our patients.

I take this opportunity to send greetings and best wishes and thank each one at JPNATC for making it possible like a family.

NURSE TRANSPLANT COORDINATOR –A NEW CONCEPT

ORBO and JPNATC :

The measure of life is not by its duration but by its donation:

The demand for organs significantly surpasses the number of donors everywhere in the world. There are more poten-tial recipients on the organ dona-tion waiting list than donors. We are pathetically trailing behind oth-er countries in organ donation. Currently, around 6000 people die every day waiting for an organ transplant in India. Every 17 minutes, someone dies waiting for a transplant and every 13 minutes, someone is added to the waiting list.

Organ Retrieval Banking Organization (ORBO) was set up in 2003 at All India Institute of Medi-cal Sciences, New Delhi. The organization aims at encouraging organ and tissue donation, fair and equitable distribution and optimum utilization of human organs. The organization maintains a do-nor registry and coordinates the entire process of organ and tissue donation after death. It also helps in creating awareness by organizing seminars, awareness camps and public education pro-grammes in schools , colleges, NGOs, corporate

sector, religious bodies, RWAs, Govt.and public or-ganizations. The organization also conducts training of healthcare workers and other stakeholders in-volved in deceased organ and tissue donation and re-

search in the field of organ and tissue donation and transplanta-tion.

Trauma Centre provides a poten-tial pool of organ donors as most trauma victims are young and healthy adult males. Therefore, a wing of ORBO was set up in Trauma Centre to approach the families of potential donors and cadaveric organ and tissue dona-tion.

Initially, ORBO team at JPNATC comprised of fac-ulty and transplant coordinators. In July 2015, three nurses were included in the team as nurse transplant coordinators. Nurse transplant coordinators assist in donor detection, donor screening, brain death certifi-cation, counselling and management. ORBO trans-plant coordinators are always available to further co-ordinate the process such as brain death certification, counselling, consent, medico-legal aspects, adminis-trative issues, coordination of transplant team and so on.

Department of Plastic, Reconstructive & Burns Surgery has recently been started at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi in July 2015.The newly formed de-partment has Dr. Maneesh Singhal , Dr. Sushma Sagar, Dr. Amit Gupta, Dr. Subodh Kumar, Dr. Biplab Mishra ( Additional Profes-sors) all from department of Surgi-cal Disciplines and Trauma Surgery along with Dr. Richa Aggarwal, Dr. Kapil Soni Dr. Shashank Chauhan (Assistant Professor ) as faculty members. This department is currently functioning with support of Department of Sur-gical Disciplines. Annually 4 super specialty residents are being taken as MCh (Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery) candidates by the de-partment. Current MCh residents in the depart-ment are Dr. Ravikiran Naalla and Dr. Nitin Kashyap. The department currently has a working office in room 5014C, teaching block, AIIMS as well as at JPNATC in room no. 304. The department works in close collaboration with almost all the departments of the hospital by “completing the

loop” of patient care and providing specialized wound care and other surgical support to the departments. Trau-

ma reconstruction, hand injuries and reconstructive sur-geries, microneurovascular surgery, post burn recon-struction, oncoplastic reconstruction, aesthetic surgery are but few specialized fields that are among the fore-most surgeries that are being done in the department.

E-OFFICE FILE TRACKING SYSTEM (aiims.eoffice.gov.in)

EHS online Intend is an extended service from the IT department which has been in-troduced for faculty and can be accessible from anywhere in AIIMS. In this module doctors can prescribe medicine online and can view the list of medicine and their availa-ble stock in EHS pharmacy in real time. Medicines which are not available in EHS pharmacy can be in-tended for local purchase.

All faculties are provided with username &

password and almost all faculties are using this software for indenting medicines. Role of NIS:

Maintain the records of all faculty doctors and help them to get the EHS user name and password. Provide training to AIIMS Faculty regarding online indent Help to implement changes required by user to make the software user-friendly . Provide assistance in using software

as needed.

Compliance: Approx. 70% of concerned office staff is using e-Office in movement of files in JPNATC

e -Office was introduced for tracking of official files. It has been implemented at Establishment, Accounts, Stores sections of JPN Apex Trauma Centre . This is also used in Chief office Addl MS office and individual faculties Some department have also started using it for letter/ requests track-ing.

Continuous training is given by Computer Facility and Nurse Informatics (NIS) .

e-Hospital@NIC a Hospital Management System is a workflow based ICT solution for Hospitals specifi-cally meant for the hospitals in Gov-ernment Sector. We are implement-ed online store and inventory through the e-Hospital software .

e-Surgical store : Online surgical store was functional wef 1st October 2015 .

e-Computer store : Online computer store was started wef 4th December

2015.It has also 100% compliance .

Master register of Emergency de-partment is online wef25/01/2016.Emergency depart-ment staff has taken an initiative to change their registers like dispatch register, admission register and plaster room register to electronic

registry and are being successfully fol-lowed by ED staff .

As an initiative to computerize the blood bank com-pletely we started the blood bank module online wef 1st January 2016.

Blood bank module consti-tutes of online donor regis-tration, online blood re-quest and reports& Utili-ty .Now the blood bank module started without bi-ometric donor management system.

Quality Assurance Module (QAM) is a powerful and user friendly soft-ware developed by AIIMS to ensure best possible learning experi-ence for the students through close monitoring, effective feedback sys-tem, regular reviewing and grading of their prac-tices. It aims to improve the quality, consistency, and accuracy of the aca-demic grading system, as well as the communication between the faculty and the student doctors bringing forth a better teaching and learning process. It also gives a constant updat-ed performance report and alert to teaching staff who evaluates their performance or activities in a real time scenario and enter comments, marks, sug-gestions and log potential concerns making recom-mendations for how to improve academic standards

E-learning is a new initiative from AIIMS Computer facility in collaboration with Bodhi Health educa-tion to provide online con-tinuous medical educa-tion .

e-Learning works on a Moodle platform which is an open source platform that provides personalised learning environment for the users .The users can access it at (from both intranet(172.16.18.17) and internet (www.aiimsdelhi.org).

Every user has unique user id and password with which they can access their profile. After logging, the users has to enroll themselves to a particular course by selecting “enroll me ”option Pre test has only one attempt with a time limit of 15 minutes after which the system auto submit it .Post test has 2 at-tempts and is conditioned in such a way that the sec-ond attempt opens only if first attempt score is below 6.Computer facility is also awarding certificates for the users who scores above 60% .The module

TRAUMA CENTRE ART GALLERY

The trauma Centre art gallery has been designed to showcase Indian Paintings and artists and provide inspiration and relaxation to staff, patient relatives and visitors.

All paintings are carefully chosen so that colors may be highlighted by the sunlight and give a stained glass appearance.

The paintings are also visible from the central garden inside the trauma center .Each paintings has a QR code which can be scanned and which will lead to the Wikipedia page of that artist..

Paintings from1-22 explains the different aspects of life from birth to death and which continues with re-birth.

SYMPOSIUM ON AMPUTATION CARE BY PHYSIOTHERAPY UNIT

On the eve of independence day the Physiotherapy unit of Jai Prakash Narayan Apex Trauma Centre , AIIMS organized a symposium for amputee patients. The theme of the symposium was aptly kept " Free-dom from Disability" .It was targeted at educating amputee patients on how to take care of themselves and their residual limbs. They were given complete knowledge starting from the primary medical care they receive , their surgery, psychological manage-

ment to latest re-search based reha-bilitation and gait training

The patients were motivated a great deal by Additional Medical superin-tendent Dr. San-

jeev Bhoi and Additional Professor of Surgery Dr. Shusha Sagar. Dr. Sushma sagar has been running a dedicated amputation clinic at the trauma center since the last three years. The clinic has provided treatment to close to 500 patients till date . Dr. Sushma encouraged the patients saying that this was not the end of their life but rather a new beginning. She told them about the success of previous ampu-tees in getting back to normal life and achieving great heights professionally also. Ms. Parul Chauhan Physiotherapist at the Trauma center, the organizing

secretary for the workshop said that they were total-ly committed to making the amputation patients get back to normal life and rehabilitate them to the ex-tent that they are free from disability. Mr. Moorthy encouraged the amputees to take up sports to find a new meaning in life. Ms. Parul Chauhan made them aware about evidence based rehabilitation and latest practices from around the world. She also gave them a guide developed by her which contained in-

formation on self-care, Government schemes for persons with disability, hos-pitals to get disabil-ity certificates, NGOs providing free of cost prosthe-sis and other vital

information., two NGOs also came forward on this occasion to provide high quality prostheses at high-ly discounted costs to the needy patients. There were significant contributions from Mr.Altaf Hu-sain Mir, physiotherapist who demonstrated how patients can get into habit of wrong walking pat-terns and how to correct them.,Dr. Animesh , sur-geon from the Indian Army and Ms. Anamika , Phd. Scholar from department of psychiatry, AIIMS.

By one month after his discharge we have got information from his relatives that he is doing well with support of ventilator. May God Bless him…….

Mr.Javed ,16 year old Teenage boy discharged from Neurosurgery ward of JPNATC(TC5) on 4Th April,2016 .His story is unique as he was admitted for two and half years in theTrauma Centre AIIMS with an alleged history of Trauma . Javed was para-lyzed and was on ventilator support and hence couldn’t go home as his parents were not able to afford a ventilator .

The DDA has allotted 15 acres of land to AIIMS adjoining to trauma center .The facility will have a center for digestive diseases, endo-crinology, ear-nose-throat (ENT), spine, bone marrow transplants, and kidney transplants, The beds, which will be spread across the var-ious centers, include 445 for trauma, 465 for digestive, 334 for ENT, 244 for endocrinolo-gy, 88 for BMT, 63 for kidney, and 202 for spine. The expansion will be based on a green build-ing concept and will have efficient manage-ment of energy and water resources Under-scoring sustainability practices, the building

will have low discharge fixtures, rain water har-vesting, dual flushing cistern, use of curing com-pound and drip irrigation, water demand in land-scaping and other such features . Through this concept we will be able to lower energy and water consumption thus contributing towards our environment also. This will in turn help us in significantly improving the quality of health care facilities at these institutions .
