Thetis- sea nymphThetis was his mother, she was a sea nymph or goddess of sea/ocean, she is one of fifty or so daughters of the sea god Nereus. Soon after Zeus was chained up Achilles freed him from his bonds. Thetis and Peleus had a couple of children before Achilles they were tossed into a pit of fire.

How did he become imortal?

His mother took him to the river Styx and by the heel dipped him into it, but the heel remained dry so it was the only part that if it was hurt would affect him.

Immortal life

Achilles took part in the Trojan war, because he was immortal he could not be killed. So he was a great leader as he was very motivational and made his army strong an fearless.

Part In warAchilles was a formidable foe, eventually he left the war and his friend who looked like him went to war to make the other side think he was still fighting. The friend was killed by prince Hector, so Achilles went back to war and killed Hector to get even, then prince Paris shot him in the heel with a poison arrow, the heel he was shot in was the one he had not had dipped in the river he than died.
