LHA 6 Basic Parameters

• LHA 6 is a mod-repeat of LHD 8– Gas Turbine/Diesel-Electric Propulsion – 4160V Electrical distribution system very similar to LHD 8

• LHA 6 hangar is significantly larger than LHD 1-8• Aviation shops and storerooms generally larger than LHD (details

on subsequent slides)– Relocated to well deck volume

• LHA 6 cargo capacity greater than LHD 1-8• LHA 6 JP-5 capacity greater than LHD 1-8• LHA 6 vehicle capability less than LHD 1-8• LHA 6 has no well deck = no LCAC or LCU

HANGAR DECK EXTENDED FORWARD AND AFT

• Increased aircraft spotting factors for future Marine Corps aircraft as well as larger logistic footprint required hangar deck expansion and subsequent relocation of AVCAL (aviation test equipment, tools, parts etc.) and maintenance shops to the former well deck area

• Removal of well deck allowed for increased aviation fuel capacity through conversion of ballast tanks to JP-5 tanks

•Additional magazine protection added

Vehicle Stowage

• LHA 6 vehicle deck is very similar to the LHD 1 Class Upper Vehicle deck

• Generally, any vehicle which fits in LHD Upper Vehicle will fit in LHA 6, except:– Without a well deck, there is no ability to off-load a vehicle which

cannot be airlifted– All vehicles must be loaded through the port/starboard side port doors

(same size as LHA 1 Class)• The LHD 1 Class Lower Vehicle deck has been subdivided into

other spaces on LHA 6– Not available for vehicle stowage
