A2 Media Studies work.
Citation preview
My completed magazine front cover denotes a mid-shot of a white man with long, black hair looking slightly past the viewer.
There is a bold, red title, accompanied by smaller yellow, blue, white and grey cover lines.
There is yellow puff to the left of the man‟s face.
The headline is large and bold.
This cover was heavily based on the
January 2012 cover of Empire, featuring
the film “The Dark Knight Rises”.
I felt the colour scheme and layout
would suit my own magazine more than
my previous attempts.
Black background
with gradient
overlay – dramatic
and attention
grabbing.
White man with black
hair – black has
connotations of
death and contrasts
with the man‟s pale
skin. Audience
question: is the man
good or evil?
Bold red title to
grab attention.
Red is attention
grabbing and
can symbolise
passion – the
magazine is
passionate about
movies.
Headline bold to
attract attention.
Positioning allows it to
take up a large
amount of space in
order to grab
attention.
The actor‟s head covers part of the title, as is
conventional within movie magazines. As my
magazine is on issue #245, it will have a
loyal, established group of readers and be
recognised by the public, so this effect will not
alienate anyone.
Yellow is very attention
grabbing, contrasting
with the dark
background. Puff
grabs attention.
Alternating grey and
white coverlines
prevent the right
hand side of the
cover from looking
dull.
Bar code fits
code and
conventions. The
date of the
issue‟s release
and the issue
price are
included here for
convenience. Blue stands out and
makes coverlines
pop.
All information on left
hand side of cover
linked to „The
Watcher‟ film.
Issue number fits
with magazine
codes and
conventions.
