Truth When people first think of New York they think of the city as a great place for opportunities and a place where they can see diversity.

When I see my home, I think of all the trash I see, and wonder why this place has become so popular, without us even keeping it clean.

Lies

Diversity is one of the

highlights of New York, but diversity isn’t always a good thing. People here are like

people anywhere else, and

prejudice still exists.

“Let us all hope that the dark clouds of racial prejudice will soon pass away, and that in some not too distant tomorrow the radiant stars of love and brotherhood will shine over our great nation with all their scintillating beauty.” –Martin Luther King Jr.

RespectTo make it in New York you need to know people to

make it here. You can’t “make it here” on your

own, but knowing New Yorkers is the

hardest thing. New Yorkers are mean people..

They don’t have respect for people

or the environment around them. This was a typical day of work for me. Walking through the

parking lot, a common thing found is complete and udder disrespect by the people who live there. They obviously

don’t realize the harmful affects of their actions.

Page 5: Rachel amato dny power point

RudenessPeople don’t respect others

property and they don’t take road signs seriously.

You shouldn’t be damaging road signs,

because you are endangering other’s

safety. Defacing and/or stealing a road sign can cause issues for drivers

and result in an accident. If people thought about

there actions and the consequences that they

will face, maybe we would live in a safer environment

than we do today.

Youth

Our youth deserves to grow up in an environment where they are safe, and they can actually be kids. Children shouldn’t have to grow up in a polluted world where

they are forced to learn things that aren’t appropriate for their age. Just because immature teenagers think its fun to voice themselves all over places where it is

wrong to be voicing, doesn’t mean that kids should have to put up with their elders immaturity. Children have an innocence, and because someone immature wants to ruin it by graffitti-ing a child’s play area, their innocence is taken away

from them at too early of an age, and personally, I don’t understand why anyone would want to do that.

AnimalsThe woods is home to

many animals. Litter and graffiti is harmful to humans, but can also affect animal’s

environment.

Litter kills or injures animals. Many small animals crawl into

bottles or jars and get stuck and slowly starve to death. Animals

get caught in plastic six pack rings, plastic bags, fishing line

and a multitude of throwaways. Birds that are stuck, can’t fly

away from danger. Sometimes animals caught in six pack rings are strangled as they grow too

big for the opening. Animals get cut, infected and die. Every

year, millions of birds, fish and animals die from litter.

BeautyEven though there can be graffiti,

litter and people who don’t care about the environment, you shouldn’t let that deter you from your view of New York. Amazing sites like the

statue of liberty is what helps make the state of New York

such a beautiful state. Breathtaking wonders such as

this, is one of the main symbols of New York because

of not only how statuesque and wonderful the site is, but

also how it symbolizes our freedom and pride of being an American and a New Yorker.

Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.

Green

You see that pale, blue dot? That's us. Everything that has ever happened in all of human history, has happened on that pixel. All the triumphs and all the tragedies,

all the wars all the famines, all the major advances... it's our only home. And that is what is at stake, our ability to live on planet Earth, to have a future as a civilization. I believe this is a moral issue, it is your time to seize this issue, it is our time to rise

again to secure our future. -Al Gore

Air

Air is shared between everyone, and it is essentially clean. That is why it is important for us to remember

to keep our air clean; its what keeps us alive. New York may not have the cleanest air or the least

polluted, but us New Yorkers can be proud of the fact that our city is not cloaked in a cloud of smog.

After years of being held at bay, smog is making a comeback in Los Angeles. And for the first time in five years, authorities have issued a first stage smog alert warning people in some areas of unhealthy levels of ozone in the air. - ABC

Light With out the sun the world as we know it would freeze. Our sun has a limited life span, and if we don’t treat our planet with care and respect, the sun is going

to last longer than we will.

It is now suspected that pollution in the Earth's atmosphere, caused by industrialization and natural phenomena such as volcanic eruptions, may have significantly reduced that amount of sunlight reaching the Earth's surface. It is estimated that this could have led to a cooling effect of over 1 degree overt he last 40 years, which would go some way to offsetting the effect of global warming. Global warming is caused primarily by increasing carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere that prevent heat being radiated back out into space from the Earth's surface. The phenomenon of global dimming may therefore have saved us, so far, from the worst affects of climate change, although it has been noticed that as pollution levels have been reduced, particularly in Western Europe, the affects of global dimming seem to be reducing, leading to an accelerating temperature rise once again. We may therefore be in the paradoxical situation that reducing pollution might INCREASE the effects of global warming, leading us ever more quickly towards catastrophe. – GLOBAL DIMMING

FutureWhat we take for granted might not be here for our children. – Al Gore

Everyone has to continue to maintain the environment to make the most use of its resources. If we don’t take care of earth, its resources won’t be there to use in the future. What will our children think of us when we hand them all the mistakes we made in our environment, and expect them to fix our mistakes that are

unfixable. We should stop the cycle now and give our children something to be proud of us for.

Hope

When you look at this beautiful setting, it makes you appreciate the true beauty of the planet earth. When the environment is properly maintained this is the outcome. The lovely colors of the trees, the wonderful skyline, is what inspires people, and art. It gives us hope that people will continue with efforts to

clean the environment so we can have more places beautiful as this.
