HANDLING THE FIREDOS & DONTS
STEP 1 STEP 2 STEP 3 STEP 4 STEP 5
If you are not formally
trained about fire fighting,
never engage yourself in that duty.
In that case, you must
leave to keep the area
accessible for fire fighters.
Security Guards must cordon the place with
road barrier so that
unnecessary people can’t get into the
spot.
Head of admin will look after
outside the spot for safety,
security and unwanted
people control.
Floor and building
owner will look after the
inside with help of fire
marshals for handling the
fire.
KNOW THE FIRE SOURCETHINK BEFORE FIGHTING A FIRE
1Every fire extinguisher is not suitable for any type of fire.
2Determine the type of fire before using extinguisher
or fire hydrant.
3Using wrong type of extinguisher may make explosion or promote smoke production.
4Never use an extinguisher or water if you are not confident enough about what you are doing.

CASE STUDY 1: PIP RFL-3 BUILDING
The incident was minor. But panic spread due to
abnormal amount of smoke.
People did not follow SOP of fire extinguishing.
Non related people were engaged in fire fighting
job.
Water stream was used in oil type fire. That was
the cause of smoke.
Smoke accumulated, because exhaust fans were
disconnected.

CASE STUDY 2: TAMPACO FOILS LTD
News has circulated that the incident was caused
by boiler explosion.
M.A. Mannan, chief inspector of boilers said that
there was no boiler explosion.
There was technical problem in the gas controlling
unit & gas line.
May be somehow fire was ignited at the gas entry
point and spread through the entire gas line.

Fire service & civil defense are fighting fire
TIPS FOR HIGHER EFFICIENCY
Addressable Fire Alarm & sprinkler system should be installed for fire detection in preliminary stage.
High window must be easily removable to exhaust smoke out, rather breaking the glass.
Exhaust fan power supply should be from utility/ lighting DB so that they could work after turning off regular
DBs.
Unnecessary use of PVC floor mat and other combustible materials should be restricted.
TIPS FOR HIGHER EFFICIENCY (Continued)
We should always try to fight as per our own strategy. External fire service force will always be acting as
reserved force.
If needed, only highest authority present in the spot will decide the action plan.
There must should be one commanding person who will divide the job.
Unnecessary loss or sabotage should be avoided.
