So… governance?
• From Wikipedia:
• Governance refers to "all processes of governing, whether
undertaken by a government, market or network, whether
over a family, tribe, formal or informal organization or
territory and whether through laws, norms, power or
language.“

So… governance?
• We have governance, whether we like it or not!
• It might be poor or it might be brilliant
• BUT you cannot have a organisation without governance
– There will be chaos and the organisation will cease to exist.

CASAHow does the model apply to our SharePoint
• Our 1st level support on SharePoint has been decentralized for the past 3 years
• High focus on ownership
• The fora is not yet up and running as we would like to
• Our Help desk – reroute all contact by default to 2nd level support.

The how we did it case – Region of Southern Denmark
• 3 years ago
• SharePoint in a very poor state
• No management, no ownership, just a server some where in
IT
• Plenty of users

The how we did it case – Region of Southern Denmark
• We applied management
• Redesigned basic infrastructure
• Had dialog with teams leading the building of our new
hospitals
• They had specific business needs for cooperation with
architects, vendors, budget control etc.
• We designed a specific solution for them
• Found ownership in CFO, the link was budget control and
management – business needs.

The how we did it case – Region of Southern Denmark
• We launched SharePoint 2010 with the solutions for teams
handling the building of our hospitals
• General infrastructural update of the platform, giving us the
opportunity to provide project sites(team sites) for other
projects in general
• Today we have aprox 500 SharePoint sites mainly for
projects in the region.

The how we did it case – Region of Southern Denmark
• Standard SharePoint
– The past 3 years we have not applied costum solutiuons to
SharePoint.
– SharePoint is used for projects, management and research
– Standard sites means out of the box sites.
– Standard also means Standard CAL

The how we did it case – Region of Southern Denmark
• Ownership has evolved over time
– In beginning the CFO was reluctant
– Now he’s playing his part as a valuable partner in delivering
SharePoint to our organisation
• Governance
– With a strict focus on structural governance we managed to
protect our platform and for the past 3 years we have had 15 min
of unforeseen downtime. It was all over within 30 min. from
problem occurred to solved.

The how we did it case – Region of Southern Denmark
• Challenges ahead
– Upgrade to SharePoint 2013
– Hosting an intranet alongside providing standard sites
– Support model
• Handling 1st level support
– Handling sensitive data on the same platform we have custom
solutions.
– Social … is it the new black? (…or is it just organge)
