Title Of The Film I chose the title of the film because in the documentary it shows a girl being determined and dedicated and persevering through the struggle she suddenly had to overcome. I believed “Always Strive & Prosper” was inspirational and displays strength. The title is shown at 00:01:06:13. I thought it would be good to be introduced in the middle of the movie as then after would show the reality and it can show the contrast in the atmospheres between ballet and athletics. Also because the audience will notice the title more as it slightly interrupt the move opening so then its memorable. This is quite common in dance/sports films as they set the scene or the mood then present the title. For example in “Save the last dance” the title is introduced at 55seconds. The font and colours used was for a calm but intense effect on the audience, as you can see the colours are light and ghostly but outlined with a black shadow to stand out more. The font used Birch Std it’s a regular, standard and simple font but its sharp and solid which is similar to the characteristics of Brooke. The background gif of the ballet positions reinforce the genre.

Setting And LocationThe ballet studio was in Roundwood Park Centre. We chose to set the ballet scenes in a dance studio as it seems more realistic and would create more of a dance atmosphere. The ballet studio had the correct lighting as there were shaded windows and the objects on the floor (studio, chair, clothing) added to dance scenery. However as this dance studio had a big mirror across one of the walls it was difficult to film at certain angles because of the reflection. The indoor athletic scenes were set in Willesden Sports Centre. We chose this indoor running track because there was a training session there and Tayla Brade trains with the club which was convenient and it produces more of a sports mood and displays the dedication from the other members from the athletics club.

Camerawork And Editing

We have edited the order of our film. We have use effects and camera shots to create distinct emotion in the film. There are two different settings in the product and the scenes are in order of time. This goes with normal conventions of a film opening as it sets the story from the beginning throughout the editing. We done this so the product would make sense and so the voice over would go with the clips. The clips are set like this to show to contrast in the Brooke’s ballet life and then her athletics life.

Story And How The Opening Sets It Up

The opening of the film starts in black and white and starts with the date November 2nd. The story is about a young girl who enjoys ballet but then finds a new passion in athletics. In the opening of the film it shows the girl practising in a dance studio then her training in an indoor athletics centre. This follows the conventions of a dance/sports film because the usually show a dramatic change in their lives and as they adapt to the change. We done this to show that Brooke has many talents and even though she loved ballet she vastly modified herself to be apart of athletics club.

How Characters Are IntroducedThe main character in our film opening is Brooke. She is not introduced at the beginning of the film because at first she just tells her story then restarts as you hear in the voiceover. Brooke is introduced after the first date entry. She’s introduced by dancing and creates the calm atmosphere at the beginning
