Ways in which our opening sequence conforms to horror

conventions• One way in which our project is similar is through allowing the audience to meet the protagonist first and experiencing some of her day-to-day life, and also her accomplices life. They need to be introduced and established first in order to make sure the audience empathise with them both through out the film.

• Another way in which it develops conventions of horror is through taking something from the media and developing it into something a little more terrifying e.g. Ebola. The concept of the scientist creating a zombie is similar to a life treating disease, in that the disease the zombie carries could potentially wipe out the human race.

More ways in which our opening sequence conforms to horror

conventions• We used lighting and camerawork to our advantage by using

yellow gels over our lights to give the laboratory a eerie feel, this helped exemplify to the audience that the setting was not safe. Also the use of camera angles helped to create suspense during the attack and just before the attack.

• We had the character wear specific costumes to help establish the narrative genre and setting. One of the scientist wore a hazmat suit, this would make it clear to the audience the work they were doing was dangerous. Both characters also wore masks and google to prevent further contamination.

Ways in which our opening sequence differs from horror

conventions• One way is which our project is dissimilar is through the way we start our film, many horror films start in the middle of the action normally a chase scene. Where as we decided to set the beginning in a safe setting to help establish our characters and the narrative.

• The beginning of the opening scene would not suggest its genre immediately in that it is set in a experimental laboratory with two scientist conversing about there social life.

Opening sequences that are similar to our opening

sequence• An opening sequence that would be

deemed similar is ‘ 28 Weeks Later’. The opening scenes share similarities in that they both start in the everyday life’s of their protagonists and then the equilibrium is disrupted by the attack of a zombie.
