What we did

in 2014

• We held monthly meetings every month except for the summer.

• Exhibited at the Transition Fair at IRSC

• We had monthly Hike Days- most of the months

• May 15th - Disability Awareness Week at Jensen Beach High School

Attended Family Café June 5-7

Malcom Harris-Gowdie did a presentation about Autism

• June 25th - AAIDD Conference – Employment Committee Workshop

• Aaron received a certificate for his participation on this committee.

• June 27th Elected Official Breakfast Meeting

We gave Representative Joe Negron an award

• Workshop making signs for transportation Rally – 7/16/14

• Transportation Rally – County Commissioner’s Office - July 21st

Pictured with us (lower center) is County Commissioner John Haddox who said he would propose an additional $100,000 be added to the budget to expand routes to Palm City

• Summer Potluck Pool Party – July 27th

• Weekly dance classes with Florida Arts and Dance

• We performed at the 7th Annual Buddy Walk October 12th

• AMERICAN DREAM FACTORY event August 16th • Exhibited and added our part of the Dream Board for

employment opportunities for people with disabilities.

Meets every Wednesday. They call themselves “The Book Friends”

• Donna Bennett did a Kickstarter fund raiser and attended SABE October 10th - 12th

Had an Exhibit Booth at the 7th Annual Treasure Coast Buddy Walk

We had a wonderful Christmas Party November 30th

The things we liked learning about by participating with FLSAND:

– Independence and awareness of issues– Socializing and making friends– Family Café– DD Day in Tallahassee– Volunteering– Community Activities– Fund Raising – Public Speaking and talking to Legislators– We want to learn about grant writing

Our goals for 2015– Attend Transition Fairs– Public Speaking to Clubs– Participate in Disability Awareness Week – Martin County Public

Schools– Help St. Lucie County Public Schools develop a Disability

Awareness Program – Self Advocate Training – Attend Family Café– Attend DD Day in Tallahassee– Plan to attend SABE in 2016– Participate in the parade– Monthly meetings, summer picnic and Christmas party– New Brochures– Fund Raisers

• Sell Shirts• 50s Sock Hop, Car Wash and a Mad Hatter Tea Party
