Utilising Moodle as a space for co-creative

approaches to learning

Keith Smyth and Julia Fotheringham

Edinburgh Napier University

Moodlemoot Edinburgh 2014

Two framing propositions

While the VLE is

often in the hands of

the academic there is

much that we can do

to allow students to

take creative controlPlacing students in the

role of online creators

and curators can do

much to support both

their learning and that

of subsequent cohorts

Informed by the 3E Framework

Enhance: learners collectively create content

for timely engagement with key concepts

Questions forums for group and peer support

Debates and polling

Extend: Student-led online seminars

Bringing guest experts into the classroom

Online guest expert sessions are planned by students in Moodle

then conducted real-time (with recordings then archived in Moodle)

Empower: Online collaborative research

Next steps in aligning 3E

Framework and Moodle…

Thank you
