Getting the right office space is so important because your business will have to live with it for the life of a lease.

If you get it right and you have a happy and productive staff and if you get it wrong, it will slow people down, cause aggravation and waste money.

When you think about a location for an office space there are lots of factors to be considered, otherwise your workplace can turn into a living nightmare.

1. Public Transport


What is it to commute to like to your office? Are there convenient public transportation available like bus,

metro, taxis, autos etc for employees or visitors to reach you office?

A long or stressful journey can put employees/clients in a bad mood before they have even reached the office.

If your staffs need to travel regularly in and out of the office to meet a client (vice versa), you may need to consider the availability of local transportation.


2. Neighbourhood of Repute


The reputation of the local area can have a big impact on the way potential clients see your business.

Your staff and visitors will feel confident visiting your office if the area has a good reputation.

Employees spend in excess of 8 hours a day in the office, so having a secure neighborhood where your employees feel safe should be a priority.

Having local amenities close to your office like banking, pharmacy, shopping area and eateries, leave your staff being grateful.


3. Clients and Vendors


Even when it comes to clients and vendors, both current and prospective, your current clients will follow you to around your new location and this does affect the acquisition of new clients.

If your staff may need to regularly visit clients’ offices (and vice versa), you may need to consider this when finding your new office space.

If your new office is far from your target market, your sales team may spend more time on the road than with clients.


4. Amenities Nearby


Life carries on when we are in the office; your employees will have errands to run after work or during lunch.

Find an office close to a bank, pharmacy and shopping area and your staff will thank you forever.

Does the local area have enough places to eat? How far will the staff need to travel during their lunch

break? Are there suitable places for both dining in and take

away?


5. Airport


If your clients have a global presence and your staff needs to travel both domestic and abroad on business purposes, having an office far from an airport can waste precious time and cause hassle for your staff.


6. Proximity to emergency services


Nobody wants to think about serious accidents at work, but in case you may need to call for emergency services then having an office to the nearest hospital, fire station and police stations are important.


7. Competition


Consider the location of your competitors; are they nearby? Will this pose problems?

Are they located in an area that has a better or worse reputation?

It might seem an odd consideration, but you don’t want staff from a rival firm lingering in public spaces where they can overhear going-on at your company, or worse still, elevator-pitching your potential new clients.
